I finally bought a replacement premium radio from a 2008 for our 2006 with the rotting soft touch buttons and want to find out the procedure for inputting the anti theft code from the 2008 radio.
The service manual says to use the VW scan tool or equivalent.
I have the code, do you have to use a scan tool or enter the number in using the radio buttons?
I have a scan guage ll.

Well, I just came back in from changing the radio-cd player out. Used the service manual and found out the code is put in by using the radio station buttons once it is powered up. Works great except I notice that it does not "key off".
Sure looks better now without the "rotten button" syndrome!
Now I need to change out the buttons on the driver door, they have the same disease--

So the radios in a 2008 model have upgraded buttons that won't peel off?

will the radios in 2009 & 2010 fit right in also or just from a 2008 model? Was the 2008 radio a SAT radio too?

I think 2009 is the last year for a direct swap. The 2008 I swapped in is the same as I had, premium with 6cd changer and sat radio.

I've got an AM/FM CD & SAT radio in mine...what's the premium radio...how do I tell if that's what I have? Is your CD changer in the trunk? I see different part #'s for the radios..how do I tell what I have for sure?

How do you get the code from the radio?

The seller on eBay had the code and sent it with the unit.
I think the "premium" is the unit with 6 cd changer and sat.
The 6 cd's all fit in the dash unit.

I found a radio with silver buttons on it like a 2008 model but the guy says it came out of a 2006. My radio that's peeling has dark buttons on it.

The silver button radios started becoming available on the late 2006 "Special Edition" cars, sometimes called 2006.5 cars.
