Injector pump timing

I just replaced the injection pump on my 97 TDI. Do you need the VagCom to fine tune the pump? It runs, just a little loud.

It's way easier with vagcom to get it just right, loud as in diesel knock? If so you could retard it a tiny bit, that should quieten it down. Mark the pump and bracket then just move a hairs breadth at a time and see how it goes. At least you can put it back to where you marked it if you hit any issues.

Thanks. No it's loud as if the exaust or manifold had a leak or loose? I know that they are tight I checked and rechecked. Then I was told that if the timing is off even a little then you can get that noise?
