Injector clamp

I have a 2000 Jetta 1.9 alh with 300,000 miles.
I have replaced the exhaust manifold, injector pump, timing belt, vacuum pump and hoses. I’ve taken injectors out and cleaned them. Running fine and then all of the sudden driving along the engine starts missing like crazy and loss of power. Number 3 injector clamp broke.
Replaced with new clamp and bolt and immediately on start up bolt loosened up. Tried tightening over 15 foot pounds and immediately clamp broke on start up. My question is i don’t know if I have bottom end problems or if I just need to get head rebuilt along with fixing threads in number 3 injector hold down clamp. I did time it with vag com and have replaced oil pump. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Reach out to Frank06, he has a lot of cylinder head experience and may have some insight.

All parts are present. I did talk to Frank and I believe the threads are stripped. His advice is to recoil the threads. I’m getting all the parts from him. He also said to not fix what’s not broken. 300,000 miles on the head doesn’t mean the head needs to be rebuilt just fix what’s broke.

Of all the places to have to do helicoil repair on an ALH head, those injector hold-down bolt holes have got to be one of the easier ones to attack.
Just out of curiosity, can you get 25Nm on those hold down bolts?

Yes I can, I have all the right tools for the job. Don’t know when I’ll get to it, might be a month or more. Been busy at work unfortunately.

I have done the injector clamp hold down thread insert repair, it wasn't too bad. I just can't remember if it was my ALH or BRM...

Good luck, John

Did you replace the injector seal? Make sure there is only one present.

Also is the washer on the hold down the special convex washer?

I replaced the seal and the special convex washer. When I do the helicoil and install injector I will tap top of injector 3 times with a punch to seat it along with a new seal. Tap tighten, tap tighten…
