Hi everyone, I'm replacing the dashboard of my Golf which doesn't have a tachometer.

I have a second series petrol Golf which you will find in the photos.

I connected the wires that are available in the car and I have 4 more left, does anyone know how to connect the tachometer? I have the W signal from the alternator, can I have a wiring diagram so I can convert it?

Thanks everyone, I attach the photos

The W signal output from the diesel alternator is a very different frequency than the ignition system from a gas engine, so a digital converter box is required. 7 or 8X faster, if memory serves, but also not exactly 7 or 8X due to the sizes of the pulleys.

Back in the day Dakota Digital made the gold standard conversion box, looks like they are still in this market. One example (have no direct personal experience):

If you go to the forums at https://vwdiesel.net/forum/ you should find quite a few threads on the subject, as that's where a lot of the MK1/MK2 diesel crowd hangs out and converting clusters is a pretty common chore when doing a transplant.
