I am upgrading all 4 doors components and I am set on using 2 ohm speakers. I have found a pretty good deal on NOS Infinity Kappas but now reading that the Kappa Perfects seem like a better unit but at a quite a higher expence. Are the Perfects worth the extra $$$$ ?

No knowledge on the difference between the two. In the end you will get what you pay for but is your hearing good enough to tell the difference between the two? Would look for the set with the highest efficiency. Am looing at some Soundstream components for my own 2005 Jetta. Do you already have component speakers installed? Am interested in how others have upgraded their systems and installed component tweeters in the factor locations. No much room where the tweeters are mounted on the rear doors.

I did look at the efficiency and there wasn't much diff between the two maybe 2db, the Perfects only had 10watts more RMS then the Std. kappas and had a diff material tweeter than the Std. Kappas

The 2 reasons I am choosing Infinity........

1. they come two ohm
2. the tweeters will fit in factory OE location with very minimal effort.

I had some middle of the product line Polks in my truck and couldn't have been happier, I think for the price savings for the NOS kappas I will choose them over the Kappa Perfects.

I have the Kappas and I like them, I don't think the perfects would be worth the extra $ IMO. The tweeters didn't quite fit because they are too deep so the griddle doesn't fit back on quite right. I had to drill out the woofers and I ran all new cable and took out the monsoon amp. It took me an entire Saturday to install the 8 speakers, mount the crossovers and run the cable. I tried to be careful and put things back so they wouldn't vibrate but 2 years later my passenger’s door has something loose in there rattling around. I also drilled a hole through my hand (after it went through the griddle, opps) when I was removing one the tweeters.

The Kappas like power so I don't know if the Monson would be enough to power them.

Overall I'm happy with the sound, but I don't think I would do it all over again. I've replaced the speakers in my last three cars and this one was by far the hardest. Maybe I'm just getting old but it was a expense ($700) and huge pain in the a$$ for what turned out to be a marginal SQ improvement over the factory Monsoon. If I was interested in listening at high volume then it would surly make a big difference because the Kappas can handle a lot of power. I power mine off a JVC headunit which can get quite loud but only provides about 1/4 power of what they can handle.

Good luck with your project!

Why do you want to run 2 ohm speakers? Not exactly a car audio guy but wouldn't 4, 8, or 16 ohms sound better? They wouldn't be as loud of course.

My amp is stable to 1 ohm on all 5 channels, I am just wanting to maximize my potential thats all.

It was hard enough finding 2 ohm components seperates with a semi decent RMS rating, I don't know if I could find a 1 ohm that didn't cost a weeks wages per set.

will the stock non monsoon HU run the kappas?
Yes it will run them, but not up to there potential, the Kappas really like wattage so a amp of some extent would really bring them up to there potential.
If you so decide to run them off the factory headunit rememeber that the rear speakers are differn't ohm than the fronts, just something to keep in mind when ordering.

I've had perfect 6.1's in my car for the last 4 years or so. They're amped and completely rewired though.

I have no complaints, once the tweeters had time to break in they sound great. They had a very shrill metallic sound to them at the beginning, and Infinity even sent me free replacement capacitors that I had to solder in the crossovers. This even with no sales receipt (bought em NIB on ebay)

my experience with infinity is that the kappa's are some great speakers, but the perfects blow them out of the water. just my opinion

My experiences are with live concert systems. Nothing better than a nice line array. McCauley, Vertec etc... I don't wire anything below 4 ohms since it can be dangerous. Resistance chages with amplitude and frequency. Meaning under load a speaker will vary in impedence but that's another story.

I'm a complete newb to car stereo systems and am kinda shocked they have 2ohm speakers much less 1ohm. Sounds dangerous to me and wouldn't imagine they'd sound good. The only reason I see someone going to a lower resistance is more volume. Any other benefeits?

I'm running Kappa's as well. As Zip said, they need power to open up the music. My install has a 4chnl amp (mounted inside the spare) with an elevated floor, an Infinity Bass Link, and a Pioneer head unit. It was a PITA, took a couple days, but all stock locations were used. Make sure to upgrade the speaker wiring, get a bunch of new stock door panel clips before the install.

I am new to the club and have a 2002 Jetta TDI. Am also looking at upgrading the speakers to Kappas or Perfects. Where did you find a good deal on these...internet site? Thanks.
