Hey everyone, I need to get my TB replaced and while I generally like to do the work on my car myself, I don't really have the time. Who would be good to talk to around Indy? I would like to get this done asap and would be willing to drive a bit if needed. Reading back in this thread, it looks like fyrsail and growler do quite a bit of work.

Thanks in advance!

Is anyone available on the N side tomorrow evening to hook up a vag-com and help diagnose my check engine light? Also had trouble getting it started this morning, yes it was in the 50* garage, not sitting outside... We'll see how it behaves tonight when i leave work.

Well, no problems starting lately... (knock on wood)

Finally got my skid plate installed yesterday :D

So would the new Kerma 3" exhaust be overkill for my car?

Might be gear oil running down the drive shaft. Check the length of the shaft up to the final drive. It may also be the rubber boot that's split and the grease has run out. I'm more inclined to an oil leak though.

I'm pretty sure it's engine oil, i could be wrong and it's gear lube. It sure doesn't smell like the gear lube i'm used to though...

I need taller ramps, it's difficult to get far enough under there to really see what's going on

soak some into a white paper towel. if its black, its engine oil. if it's brownish it's gear oil.
my guess is gear oil.
and yes, 3" exhaust is way overkill until you get turbo, chip, injectors, intake, etc. but it would sound cool....

I'll check the garage floor in the morning...

I agree, but it seems to be a decent price and possibly less than a 2.5"

I'm all for it if it's what you want! Don't expect any noticeable performance gains, but the cool factor will be there!

Hi all, back in Indy from my year in Ireland. Enjoyed driving the 2010 Golf TDI they gave me over there and the diesel is a bit cheaper than petrol (but still almost $8/gallon!). Back home in my Jetta now. Window fell down inside the door the other day but thanks to this site it was fixed free at the dealer, stupid window clips/TSB. Got a couple recall items taken care of too. They loaned me a 2010 Jetta TDI but it seemed a little boring to drive. Maybe it's just too quiet!

My bf ran over a curb the other day and out popped the wheel well liner (and he ran that over too)... seems mostly intact though. He asked his mechanic if he had to remove the wheel to put it back on and the response was, 'No, but you'll wish you did!' hehe Note it's not back in yet!

Jetta wouldn't start this morning. Hope it's battery. It must have known I was thinking about a new car.

Anyone have, or know of anyone, has a trailer hitch for sale that would fit my VW New Beetle? With gas prices on the rise I'm wanting to use Bee and my biodiesel for vacations. Needless to say there ain't much room in Beetle!

Man am I the only person capable of arranging a GTG?! ; ) We are WAAAY over due for a GTG!

Sorry Vegbug but it is your thread, therefore you schedule the events for us to come to and then you bail at the last minute. :)

I haven't seen anyone selling a hitch for a NB but I will keep my eyes open. If you can't find one maybe a luggage rack would be better.

I'm up for a GTG just name the time and place and I'll do my best to get there.

Joe

Ugh...My wife will not be happy that I own one more thing! ; )

Want the hitch as it can do multiple tasks like:

1).Pull trailer to gather veg oil
2).Use to carry bike, graciously provided by Fyrsail
3).Put tray on & strap arguing kids on it and leave the Mrs. & I in peace
4).Gun rack, there's not much room in Bee.

If you leave it up to me to plan something it'll have to be at least a couple weeks out as I finish some projects for my classes. But if anyone is feeling the need to set something up by all means do!

Amy- good to have you home! You should show your bf how easy it is to just pull that wheel off and fix it. t-20 driver should be all you need after the wheel is off.

Jerry- Dont know of anyone selling one, but you might ask frank if he's getting the hitch back from his jetta (it may have been welded on I dont know). You could probably make it work if he has it.

Joe- I'm with you, time and place!

Yeah Frank sold his before I could get to it. I posted the TDI forums under the classifieds hoping something might turn up.

But I guess that will be secondary as I need to take of the front wheel bearing and do a TB change. Hey Neil can you pull up the service record for my Bee? The previous owner said he had just taken it in to Tom Wood for a TB change before trading it in. Hoping I got lucky and they put on the 100k kit/belt. If you can in on of my previous PM's to you I gave you the VIN.

Thanks

Jerry

If it was done at Wood, I will not be able to check for you. I can only check records from my shop, with the exception of warranty or recall issues which vw keeps on file. Easiest would be just to call them, they
should be able to check.

Vegbug- If you need a hand with the wheel bearing or Timing Belt let me know. I have done both to my car in the past 3 months and neither one was too bad. Send me PM and I can give you my number and then we can get'r done.

DCell - I believe you purchased the exhaust system from Frank's Jetta that he sold. Are you interested in selling the one that is currently on your Golf? I would be happy to give you $1,000,000,000 for it! - Brett

Exhaust

Brett-
Hoping to have the new exhaust on this weekend if I get my taxes done with some time left over! If not, it'll be next weekend. I would be willing to part with it as long as I like the new one. 1,000,000 sounds like a fair price!

BullWinkle,

I'll definitely be calling and we can make a day of it. I know Frank is dying to get his hands on Bee and get some needed work done. Maybe we can make a working GTG? Won't be able to do much til the end of the month as I'm neck deep in writing a final paper for my class.

Brett-
After a long day in the garage, I finally have 2.5" turbo-back exhaust installed. You were right, I had to drop the rear axle beam to snake that thing out. I think the new one would have gone in/out without dropping it though, it was a lot easier without a muffler. The new one is a little long for the Golf. I had to cut a hole through the lower bumper skirt to let the tailpipe out. I have the old one in the back of the truck, I'll run it down to you later this week. Based on the length of the new system, it seems my old one may be a little short for the Jetta. There is a very small hole by the center clamp, so I was thinking maybe Ralph's could cut the hole out and weld on a few inches for you. I'm not sure how it will fit but I think the extra length is in the center pipe.
