Sometime in 2011 when it is warm out I plan to replace the rear bearings, struts/mounts, and axle beam bushings. The 20-ton press I had to buy :) to finish the Jetta will come in handy for that project too.

It really does ride tremendously better.

Hey convert were your bearings making any noise and if can you describe it? Also any wheel vibration?

I've got a nasty whrubbling noise coming out of the front and not sure if it's bearings or a bent shaft. Already had the wheels balanced and rotated with no luck. When car was up on lift wheel didn't have the usual play of bearings going bad. With Fyrsail's help we replaced a badly bent lower control arm, but noise is still there.

An axle shaft usually only makes noise when turning, typically it is a clicking noise. I assume the noise is consistent with speed, it gets faster and slower with the speed of the car? A tire with a broken belt or chopped tread could cause the noise also. I have a set of GLS wheels with decent tires on them that you could mount on your car and eliminate tires as a possibility. They are just sitting around so you could use them any time you wanted.

I might have to take you up on trying tires. Noise only starts at 20mph and get progressively worse. Under 20 nothing.

My bet would be tires or bearings, although I haven't heard the noise yet. I will PM my number so you can call/text if you want.

My bet is bearings as the tires looked to be Ok and the a arm was tremendously bent from a hard impact., I can help put those in also.

Bring it back up and we can put it back on the lift and take a closer look at it. I am going to replace both front bearings on the passsat if you want to see it done with the hubshark tool. give me a call maybe we can have a mini GTG. still want to build that processor on the other side for Bio.

Using 28 gallons of the cleanest bio i have ever brewed, and also enjoying a nice cool frosty home brew beverage. Looking to hang out and chill this weekend.

FRANK- Did I see your car at my shop a couple days ago? I figured you were at the parts counter. I was going to look for you but the car was gone by the time I finished with my customer. LMK if you ever need parts. I maybe can "help" you out a little...

GLENN- Post here if you guys get together at your place, I may come out if I have time.

This weekend I get to do two complete services on my golf(s), and going to install a skid plate on the 02. Then I'll just have a couple little things yet to do on it and I'll probably start driving it a little. I've owned it since before thanksgiving and driven it less than 50 miles!

Also enjoying a frosty beverage, although mine was brewed in Noblesville at Barley Island.

FREE to good home:

2 zero rebound struts, 2 mushroomed mounts(bearings included), 2 wheel bearings(need reassembled), 2 warped rotors(warn pads included), 1 crushed ABS sensor, 1 bad knuckle, Both left tie rods, 2 sway bar links, and two loose lower balljoints.

One phone call to me and you Jetta could have a custom ride complete with several knocks and pops.
Sounds close to what I need to do to mine...

yes wiltech the that is the oil you brought, and it runs fine. the bio looked like extra light coors light., and the home brew looked like smoked stout, and its all gone,,,, yummy, as for the thread kits they have been teasing me for about a year and i also almost bought one, it could have been handy several times., im up for hanging out on sunday if anyone is up for it, and i can help wrench if needed.

Dang it! Missed all the chatter about the impromptu GTG! Meeting with someone to do some web geekery so I would have missed it any way.

Someone needs to get me their updated cell number as the ones I have belong to someone else. You know who you are! ;)

Glenn will have to get with you about getting Bee back up and dealing with the bearings. Hopefully you and Frank were able to work out the details of the bio brewing, if you got together.

ok so yet another annoying issue has popped up. The vent selector dial, you know for vent, defrost, feet, mixed, appears to have stopped working! I get good heat but only through the dash vents. Is this thing an electrical or mechanical dial that selects which vent it uses?!

I believe the selector is mechanical, but the control unit is all one part (all three dials). I think to replace it the whole thing comes out together. Does it "feel" broken? when you turn the dial does it feel like it did before or does it feel disconnected? I bet you could find a good used one pretty easily .

Feels loose, no resistance, no clicking into place, but it's not just spinning like a roulette wheel either. What the hell is the called?! Thanks!

thanks for asking,
everyone is doing great. Leah is drooling a lot and chewing on everything she can get into her mouth (we figure teeth are on the way). Her legs are getting very strong and she likes to kick and hang out in her bouncy chair. I figure she'll be crawling soon. Michelle when back to work earlier this month when the kids returned from Christmas break. She's been busy with several projects, including hand making baby shoes for Leah and some other babies we know. Leah also has a new cousin as of last weekend so now there is another baby to make stuff for.

Next GTG will be this summer sometime. TBA.

Thank You DCELL !!!

New guy here with a 06 Jetta 5 speed. In fact, I've only had it since last Tuesday. Still on the 1st tank of gas. Check out my sig with the "1 fuel-up". :D

I want to give a shout out and BIG THANK YOU TO DCELL !!!

I've been lurking on the site and looking for a diesel for a couple of months. Learned a lot. DCELL answered a bunch of questions... Thanks much!

Now I have to fix a few things....A trunk that doesn't latch everytime and airbag light that stays on. The latch deal looks like an easy one but the airbag deal may have to wait until I can attend a local get together. Previous owner took very good care of the Jetta so hopefully there is a bunch of miles left to be driven!

Anyway, great site. Looking forward to warmer weather for sure. And, pics of the new ride.

Pappy

pappy- Be careful trying to run that thing on GAS! The trunk thing isn't a big deal at all, it probably just needs a new latch. Anyway, glad to hear you are still happy with it.

Maybe we need a winter GTG. Anyone up for something next month?

Remember that a few of us are coming up on timing belts and that a few of us are looking at upgrading to the 11 mm fuel pump, we can do transmission things, and remember i do a few things for cash but mostly I am paid in beer, and food. personally i'm preparing for my second timing belt on the getto sedan and upgradingmy pump, also thinking of air ride system for the front and back after riding with a vortex member......

So I spent Saturday "finally" installing my new clutch. I went with a Sachs VR6 clutch with a EuroSpec Sport 21.5lb SMF. I'm finally (mostly) happy with the power upgrades, now that I don't slip at all in 4th or 5th gear. I want to let everyone know how great BleachedBora's (Aaron) service was. Very fast free shipping and super knowledgeable about his products. In a couple weeks I'll be upgrading the suspension to a bilstein TC/ VR6 GTI setup with TT mounts and bushings. Also doing the tie rods and ball joints while it's all taken apart. I can't wait for some dry pavement!
