I am eagerly awaiting my jetta comfortline to come in, the dealership didn't have any in Alberta black on black manual with no options. (I'm just going to put in an aftermarket deck with nav, bluetooth, and a back-up camera. wayyy better deal) I have never owned a TDI nor any diesel for that matter. I was just wondering how they are in the cold because this will be my summer and winter car. It gets to -30C (-22F) during the winter for at least a couple weeks where I live. The car comes with the inline circ heater which I thought was nice, better than just an oil pan heater but a plug isn't always accessable. How have you guys managed in the cold? (and not the american, 30F kinda cold that I've seen on youtube but real canadian winter cold!:D)

keep you fuel from gelling and you'll be fine, coolant heater isn't needed, just makes the first 10 miles of the ride more enjoyable.

i owned a 01 tdi before this one, the coldest ihad to start it when unpluged was about -22 c. it complained but started. i did install an in-line hearter in it as it took forever to warm it up. (yes driving it, not idling) these new one are supposed to be much better than previous, will find out next fall. p.s ive used stanadyne performance for 14 years, never a problem with with fuel or fuel system/pumps. with the hpfp the newer cr engines have, i wiil also be adding lubricity fomula, probably half and half with performance formula due to the few pumps grenading.

I lived in Minot, North Dakota for 7 years. The coldest I remember, with the windchill, was an American -72 F. Without the windchill, I remember a balmy, American -55 F.

You should be fine. Adding some winter additives to your fuel shouldn't hurt either...

Yeah, that's cold alright, though it's good to hear things should be fine. supposed to pick it up tomorrow and hopefully wont have to worry about the cold starts until fall.

I have a 2011 TDI and have had no issues cold starting in -32 C, didn't bother plugging it in either.
