Impressed with the 2.0 TDI

Went for a test drive yesterday in a 2011 Jetta TDI DSG. Truth be told, I was leery of everything I've read about how stout the 2.0 was. After all, it's only a 120 ci 4 banger & most of the reviews I've read were comparing the 2.0 to gas engines. I've driven Cummins powered Dodges since 2003, so I know what torque is. I drove around Kansas City during rush hour, both on city streets & the interstate, & my eyes were opened!! That dang little engine was more than up to the task of the city streets, accelerated extremely well without having to mash the go pedal to the floor. So, for the big test I went out to I-35 N. Just after MO152 there's a hill with a pretty good incline that 95% of vehicles either slow down or have to down shift to make it up. Set the cruise at 65 & that car just motored over that thing like it wasn't there, I would've bet serious money that it couldn't have done it!!! Color me impressed! So, if we can dicker the dealer down from $25500 to close to VW's 23735 msrp, you can count me as a proud TDI owner.

I know when I test drove my first TDi and then the GTi I actually liked the TDi better. I was shocked! So this is our first diesel powered vehicle. Good luck to you. Try using TMV and simply ask for invoice pricing!

The 2.0 TDI power plant is VW's sweet spot, there are 1.xL - V12 TDI motors, but looking at the best for daily driving, performance, and the all important MPG, the 2.0 TDI is the best imo.

As far as pricing goes, you should never pay more then sticker. I myself have never purchased a new vehicle for at or above invoice. Dealers buy in bulk, ship cars by the dozens, and include crap that they can purposely mark up, this is why people hate buying a new car. My advice is find a better dealer and take your hard earned money else. Understand that they are taking advantage of gas prices at the moment, but the economy is still in the toilet.

Also just FYI, I paid less for my Mk6 JTDI then what they are offering you...

Went to the TrueCar.com site & have already been contacted by a dealer in Omaha willing to sell me a Jetta TDI with a manual transmission for $22,645! That's over $1000 less than the msrp from VW, thanks TDI_Timmy! If you're ever in the KC area, give me a holler, the first 2 rounds are on me!

I got my 2011 Jetta TDI for $300 over dealer invoice. I realize there are holdbacks and such, and that "invoice" is not actually what the car costs the dealer, but considering how much gas has gone up, and the fact that they only had two Jettas on the lot, I felt I got a fair deal.

Just for your info. If anyone has an American Express Card they are automatically enrolled in the American Express Auto Purchasing program. I used my membership to buy mine at $250 below invoice. You should check it out, it's similar to Costco's auto buying program.

I'm a Costco member, and when I tried to use their service there was no dealer in my area. Odd, there are two VW dealers within 30 miles of my house, and several others within a couple hundred miles.

2.0 is an amazing engine.....been gunning it hard and getting great mileage and NO smoke and no oil cosumtion at all on a brand new motor. best combo in NA of power and economy.
