Immobilizer Question

So it's been a long time since I had a functional mk4.. And well, I'm still not there technically. But I TDI swapped my wagon from a 2.0 automatic. Trying to get it started to prove out all the wiring changes before I install the dash incase I need to pull it back out.
So the car won't fire off. When cranking the fuel solenoid is energized. But after several minutes of cranking with the injector lines cracked I only have a few drops on #3...
I did not do an immo delete but I am using the cluster, ecm and key(whole steering column actually) from the donor car.
I am trying to figure out why I can't get fuel to the injectors. There is a light on the dash, that i think may be the immo light, but I also have virtually none of the sensors hooked up yet(just the crank sensor, injection pump, and needle lift). Or does the pump need resealed from sitting?
So yeah, reasons this light could be on?? Can these things loose their immo pairing? Is it triggered just because things like the maf and ect aren't connected?
My 109 relay is working because I have 12v to the MAF and VSS
Any help would be appreciated!

Yes the picture of the car with the key through it is the immobilizer, scan for codes in the engine controller, may say something like 'start inhibited by immobilizer' or something. Just because they were the same mated cluster, key and ecm, sometimes they forget that they're synced.

I'd scan for codes, see where you're at first. With everything disconnected, the car should still start, but run poorly. All you need is crank sensor, pump, and needle lift.

Yeah I was hoping the car would kick to life, but run like crap.
I was having difficulty with my vagcom and just got it working. Here are the relevant codes:

So on the cluster, it says "key, Signal too Low"?? I have never seen this one.. I have continuity from the ring to T32a/2 and T32a/17.
And do these cars have a can gateway? It has a Module ID number but no idea where can bus module would be located.

The CAN gateway is part of the cluster. Try clearing all codes, go into CAN, select soft coding, don't change anything, hit DO It, then key cycle. See what happens.

THanks.
I got the needle lift code gone. There was crap on the contacts of the connector. Now I have 110 ohms at the ECU pins.
Unplugged the T32A connector, checked ohms of the immobilizer antenna. 23 or 24 ohms. From what I read thats good.
Then i tried cranking it again and see if the immobilizer improved. Well, I forgot to plug the T32A connector back into the cluster so now I am on a immobilizer lockout.

I did go into the can gateway and clear the codes, I did the soft coding thing. What was supposed to happen? I didnt see anything Error screens or a Contratulations pop up.

While I wait for the immobilizer to clear, I did pull the pins from the 4 pin fuel tank socket and transfer the fuel sender wires to the 2 pin TDI socket, so now I have a functioning fuel gauge. At this point, I need to embrace the little victories!

So.. on this immobilizer.. This really makes no sense to me. Does it matter if my steering column is pretty much bare? I dont have the steering wheel installed, no clock spring. I do have the wiper switches/hi low beam stalks installed is about it. I doubt it, but do the plastics help with the signal for this thing or anything?

Running the soft coding on the Gateway makes it rescan everything and sync the network of modules. There won't be any visual queues of it doing anything other than usually making codes go inactive.
All you need for the immobilizer to work is the pickup ring at the key, cluster, and ecm. And the correct key of course. As far as it knows it doesn't need the rest of the column there.

The CAN bus errors are gone now. All codes now make sense, except the key signal too low.
The steering wheel error is because I dont have the steering wheel installed, and the air bag errors because I dont have a passenger seat or steering wheel installed. Still waiting on the ECT to arrive so thats the ECT codes.

So yeah this Immobilzer thing is kicking my rear. Not sure how long its going to take for the code to clear about the Immobilizer preventing the start. I unplugged the battery and will see what it says in the morning. But yea, the cluster, ECU and key are all from the same car so ***.

And sorry to vent but getting this thing this far has been dozens and dozens of hours in the wiring diagrams getting the TDI stuff transferred in properly without using butt connectors and solder joints and electrical tape. Frustrating to get stumped by three components that should just plug in together not seeming to work for some reason.

Last I recall you leave the key in the ignition in ON for 10 minutes and it should allow you to start. As long as it's a paired key.
