Has anyone else received a recall notice on the electrical portion of the ignition switch? I received one this weekend a couple of days after replacing mine. There is a process for getting reimbursed. We'll see how smoothly that works.

I got mine this weekend as well. (96) I was planning on doing it after the holiday's. Part of me says" if it ain't broke don't fix it" but it will probably act up later. It is a common enough failure that II'll do the recall. I just hade the thought ot leaving the car at the dealership.

My ignition switch went out on my 98 Jetta TDI in November '02 and do to the urgency it became a dealer repair ( $ 300.00 ). Please keep us informed about any recall.

Yep, got the notice. I also plan to do it after the holidays as I have a lot of miles to put on before 1/1/2003 (over 1,000). I really don't want to do that in the Saturn since we have the TDI!

Thinking of letting them do a coolant flush and get the pink stuff back in there. It has never been pink since I purchased it from a DEALER, whos maintenance manager said the car needed nothing
(except for CV boot, Engine mount, corner markers (for PA insp.). Oh well, same deal; great cars, poor service.

Got one too. Now the dealer's probably backed up 6 months...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Dunno about the '98 Jetta but my '96 Passat has this statement:

If you have already incurred "out of pocket" expenses for replacement of the electrical part of the ignition switch assembly, please make a copy of the repair order and mail the ORIGINAL together with a cover note to the address below. We would be pleased to review your request for reimbursement.

Careful about that coolant flush MORE_MPG - apparently the G11 and G12 stuff precipitate goo when mixed. Will the dealer lovingly run several cycles of clean water to make sure every drop is gone? Eh...

CONTACT VWOA AT 1-800-822-8987

The only way we are going to make sure that VWoA honors this recall is if we PRESS them. We all need to call and report our ignition switch problems. It is all a "paper-trail game".

I just called VWoA and presented my 'case' of the intermittent starting and electrical fauilures and emphasized that this a Safety concern and liability issue.

I told 'Aaron' at VWoA that there was a NHTSA Recall on the 'ignition switch' problem -- but of course they don't have any idea what I am talking about.

It is soooo frustrating.

Has anyone received their Recall Letter in the mail for the '96 Passat Ignition Switch failure??? Please share.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info everybody. Sounds like the best way to start is go to a reliable dealer-- VWOA isn't as helpful. I just registered as the new onwer of a 96 Passat with VWOA, two days ago, and specifically asked if there were any recalls or campaigns for the car. Rep told me "no," and that he couldn't or wouldn't tell me if any old/closed campaigns had been performed on my car.

Anyone have a list of campaigns that have occurred on the 96 Passat TDI's?
