Ignition Switch-- Need help

After some research I think it goes between the U-joint and the bearing at the bottom of the support tube.

97 jetta tdi 244k stage 2 Malone Bosch injectors, 98 jetta tdi 240k injectors.
Personally I cant tell why the spring is there. It kept me from marking streering wheel alignment. And it took a few tries after to get it straight. .pain in the but. So I left it out and got it straight.

Ah. Ok. Haven't noticed any difference. I'll pull on the wheel see what happens

The whole ignition switch process was a little stressful removing the steering wheel with markings. Make sure not to strip anything and be careful. I had to change mine with a new because of it not working in hot summer days. Starts like a charm now, just make sure to buy OEM like I did. You don't want to go through this again.
