so true, when I first met my wife I changed the oil on her 90's civic for her, removed one of the most generic filters I have ever seen that used a large filter and a huge o'ring in order to make the seal on just about any 4 cylinder. Previous to me she always went to the quick lube guys

You'd be better off not changing your oil at all vs. letting these wonks do it.

Seriously, I agree. My 4-dr which I have serviced myself has a cam that looks nearly pristine, and I'd bet it would measure out to be within new specs. The 2-dr that I bought used, needed a new cam and lifters at 200k* miles. That one had been abused at local (to the PO) quick lube places.

Cheers,

PH

*Yeah, yeah, I know that some say that a cam should only last 200k in an ALH engine, but that is coming from guys that sell said cams, so I'm not sure that advise is what I want to trust in all cases. And certainly, in my own limited experience, 200k miles on a cam in an ALH engine is very short of the potential.
