If you are considering buyback which cars are you looking at as replacements?

I can confirm, the Outback does make a good family wagon. Picked one up a few years back for the wife to replace a totaled Rogue and she has been very happy. That being said, compared to my TDI Golf it is almost painfully sluggish. The anemic H4 + CVT was a little painful to get use to, but it gets the job done, eventually. She didn't want to pay the 6 cylinder premium, but I hear that makes a big difference.
We ended up with a H-6 Outback, it's a lot quicker than you expect. It runs circles around our Passat TDI. The Outback has way more body roll, however I fixed that with a 20mm RSB upgrade. I'm really happy with the upgrade, fuel economy isn't nearly as good, but that was to be expected. The outback also tows a lot better, but I think that was to be expected too.

Nice, I really really was hoping to love the 4runner. I think a lot of the aspects of the car are just what I want, but for the hp stated, when I test drove it, it just felt really lacking and un-exciting...I tried hard to like it too...lol
It is no pocket rocket, but it will get you anywhere you want to go, and back again. And with relatively similar torque numbers as our 2.0L in a rig that weighs 2.5 times as much, it only really gets exciting to drive once you get off the road. I keep telling myself this is going to help lighten my lead foot a bit.

Hoping to get solar panels on my roof in the next year or so and was thinking electric or plug in hybrid too, but the prices they want for such a small car was not convincing. Maybe in a another 5-7 years we will see some truly exciting electrics hit the market at justifiable price points.

There have been rumors that the sedan will have a manual available, but I'm dubious.

Well this one may not have been detectable to the driver, but it was to me in the car behind him. Made me smile because I've read lots of complaints about start/stop on various cars. Apparently some do it well, others not so much.
I had Jeep Grand Cherokee for a rental with the stop/start. Once I figured out how to trun it off, I started to like the thing. The hesitation from a dead stop is worse than trying to teach someone how to drive a stick. Try to pull out into traffic and you're risking everyone's lives.

Gotta have me a wagon/hatch/SUV. They have a manual F-Pace diesel available elsewhere in the world:rolleyes:
Then I'd just need the extra $20K:p
You get more manuals up there than we do, but I still doubt you'll get the F-Pace with one.

And it's pretty reasonably priced, starting at about $41K US. Not JSW territory, but not really Porsche Macan either.

Yeah they're certainly 'reasonably' priced. Too rich for my blood though. Could be a good alternative to some here though.

Already tried this arguement with the wife and was met with silence. After 30+ years of wedded bliss, I know what silence means.

I would despair with the lack of automatics, but I agree on the holding out for a wagon. I'd drive a CX-5 and see what you think: I've heard bad things about road and wind noise. If you can swing the price difference the Allroad would probably by my choice.
Our 2015.5 CX-5 has some wind & road noise issues but Mazda has addressed the issue to some degree in the later model years. Haven't driven one so I can't contrast & compare. I do know that the 2017 Mazda 6 is reported by C&D to be much quieter:
Mazda quieted down the 6’s interior in its 2016 update but has further addressed the issue with thicker front-door glass (except in Grand Touring models, which get acoustic-laminated glass). Meanwhile, seals and weather stripping have been optimized to stifle noise. There also is better sound suppression between the door-panel trim and the doors’ inner structure, as well as more noise-reducing material in the headliner.
I would expect the new CX-5 might get a similar treatment.

To address the question of the GSW 4-Motion 6M availablilty. VW has stated the 6M will be available in the first quarter of 2017.
.
On a different matter, I for one would greatly appreciate it if images were suitably downsized before uploading to the site. Some pages in this thread are nearly twice the width of my laptop's 17" screen. Thanks (/rant mode)

You almost have to PM the culprits directly. Apparently they post up images with smart phones. Maybe one of these days this site will be able to resize the large images automatically.

Any of the more well-heeled folks on here might want to look at the diesel offerings from Jaguar too. Sadly no manuals as far as I know in North America but otherwise they sure are pretty...

Don't have to be well-heeled for a test-drive! The XE has too much hard plastic inside (the hood over the instrument panel is the worst) and is really small in back. The diesel XF is an awesome ride, though. Quiet, roomy, torquey enough. Just too expensive...

2001 Golf GLS Silver, 2011 JSW Manual - Bought Back. Now 328d Wagon.
Just bought a 328d Wagon. Lots of miles, but just able to afford it. And so the saga ends (I hope). Now just got to keep the golf running.

I picked one up too Lapis Blue. The 2.5L was fine a a short city test drive, but the 3.6 does exactly what I want on the highway, 60-90mph passing sprints. I really enjoy nearly everything except the seats!

What did you think about the eyesight system? Did you get it or pass on it?

What don't you like about the seats? That's the biggest sticking point in any of the cars we've owned. How comfortable is the dirving position for running around town compared to a 10+ hour road trip. That is the main reason that my 05 Corolla became the college car. I can't find a comfortable driving position.

I wonder if mazda did some of the same things that Honda did (or maybe still does). The higher the level of trim, the better and greater the insolation. I had a top level 07 CR-V that was fairly quite on the highway but my sister's base level from the same year sounded like the sunroof was always open. The base model that year did not come with a sunroof.

So, with owning solar, having owned 3 EV's, I can't believe I never heard of Mitsubishi's Outlander PHEV. Looks like it keeps getting delayed though, even though it's been released for some time in both Japan and in Europe. I find this a very likely candidate for us because:

- 32 mile EV only range (higher than most plug in hybrids except the Volt)
- Price range starting at just $32k

Only problem is having to wait until next summer IF it comes out as scheduled. This is the 5th time they have delayed the release date for US market.

Thanks. I wish they would give the dealers a better timeline... I haven't asked directly if I can reserve one, but whenever I've said I'm holding out they just say we don't know. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but pretty soon we're going to get called to schedule the buy back.

Is anyone driving / looking at a Mazda5?
Mazda stopped making them after 2015 I think.
I've decided, with 3 kids, to look a minivan/cuv with 3 rows if I can get one.
The Mazda5 Sport actually had a 5MT version.
Smallest car with 3 rows I've ever seen.

Should I get one of these used?

I took a cursory glance but stopped when I learned they don't have any of the new SkyActiv motors,/engineering etc and neither have much power or are terribly efficient.

Actually kind of a shame they aren't developing a modern version with their SkyActiv gear. I'd have considered one. Apparently they view the CX9 and CX7 as 3 row replacements in a format (CUV) that North Americans are far more fond of .

Understandable I suppose but I wish they'd at least compromise on some wagons then at least...
