So here’s a funny story:
I visited my designated TDI buyback dealer today to talk about my post-buyback plans and the gentlemen I spoke with shared some interesting information.
For TDIers who are less boneheaded than me and therefore figured out that the entire VW line is to be ignored: VW ships a new AWD model next month called the Golf Alltrack. As indicated, I’m a bonehead so I’ve been closely following developments related to the release of the Golf Alltrack in anticipation of purchasing one with my forthcoming generous compensation (in combination with a pile of my own money).
According to reams of recent press, the Golf Alltrack is positioned to put major points on the board in terms of restoring faith in the brand and changing the whole tone of the conversation related to VW. Further, VW press release materials make a point to delineate three trim levels: “S”, “SE”, and “SEL”; with the “S” (entry trim) starting below 27K (28 for the DSG). In fact, you can’t google “Alltrack” without being reminded that this miraculous vehicle is going on sale next month for for a mere $26,950.00 (+ $ 845.00 destination).
Well, when I visited my designated TDI buyback dealership today to discuss how to arrange for me to acquire a Golf Alltrack, they indicated that VW will not be shipping ANY vehicles in the S trim. None. Zero. Nada. Not a single vehicle in the stated entry trim. And that in reality, the entry trim is the SE trim, which is not $26,950.00 (+ $ 845.00 destination).
This particular dealership is fairly reputable within my region, and I can't identify any way in which the sales team would benefit from misleading me. After all, if I'm a big enough dope to consider VW again, you'd figure I'd make a great customer.
So, assuming the info I got today is correct, VW has semi-aggressively marketed this car @ 27K but doesn't plan to sell a single unit for less than 32K.
How far will this company go to convince me that they are sick and tired of having me as a customer, and will I finally get the message this time?
