That is differenct than NC. We have the use (sales) tax when the car is first registered and also annual property taxes on the vehicles. Heck, they even want me to pay property tax on my kayak trailer.
Okies pay a "TAG" on trailers ~~ not sure if there is other taxes

Private and dealer car sales are equal on TT&L

There is a limit on private car sales ~~ people can sell 'bout 5 - 6 cars off the curb ~~

the regular CX-5 can get an estimated 33mpg highway (with the 2.5L and AWD) so I expect the diesel version to be very close to 40 if not over.

The CX-5 is my #1 choice because of the mileage, I just don't know if I go used on that or CPO Equinox.

I hate budgets! LOL

Well, I test drove the Subaru Impreza Premium (5 door because they didn't have a sedan handy) last night and now I'm even more undecided. The interior on the 2017 still felt cheap, and the steering was kind of tight. In fact, it felt like the tight "autocorrect" steering on the Honda Civic that I test drove. The car itself was light and small, but it was overall just kind of a meh appliance with nothing special about it other than AWD.
I thought the interior on the Subaru Legacy was so much nicer and comfortable, even though that car was larger and felt like a boat.
So I might end up with a boat-like Legacy instead of the more "nimble" Impreza just on comfort alone. If I am going to compromise on my next car, it will not be on comfort.
My TDI Jetta has:
+MPG
+Power
+Comfort
+Price Point

Next car has to be the same or lower price point. I'll give up MPG and power, but not comfort.

I wonder what kind of gas mileage it will get. If you can get 40 mpg for it than it would be a great choice as long as isn't too much more than the regular one.
I'd think upper 30s should be obtainable. We often got low 30s in our '15 2.5 AWD. As to higher cost, you just pay a little longer :D... and will you really care in 5 years?

Our 2nd TDI goes back this Thursday and I pick up my new Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in 10 days, I'm on the BIG countdown. I ordered the Wrangler in Dec right after I was able to make the buyback date and she was delivered to the dealer on Jan 17th. The Jeep forums have been invaluable! I was able to track the whole process from order date, build to delivery. I ordered red with a black hard top, soon this will be me. I can hardly wait for my new adventures in Little Red, here's to Jeep Life!

I have retired and no longer have a need for a high mpg commuter car, I bought myself a BMW X5 3.5i as my retirement gift to me. I have 85K miles on my '12 Passat, exhaust valve shot, NOx sensor shot, heater not working, water pump leaking... I love my 02 Golf TDI, it's still going strong with 288K miles, but the Passat is my last VW, I can't wait to give it back.
hard to want another vw with this sort of junk on a 85,000 mile 4-5 year old car

Rented a brand new Ford Fusion Hybrid for past 2 days. Drove 80 miles and fuel guage still reads full and computer stating 49 mpg. Surprising to me how nice this car is. Don't overlook it if you're in the market.

Oh fun!!!!!

I won't lie, i'm 110% jealous. That is my dream ride - but alas, I drive too much for kid appointments that it isn't financially viable for me to even consider it. It will kill my current budget to give up my TDI.

One day, one day though - it will be mine!!!!

No need to read the reports :)

If ford made it ~~ it is crraapppolla :(

Generalizations like that are usually innacurate, and unfortunately when it comes to cars, CR is useless unless you view an automobile as only a means of transportation and value reliability and gas mileage as your main deciding factors when buying a car.

Still considering a 2017 Golf Wolfsburg Edition. I do not have any particular animosity toward VW. I just need a reliable 2nd car. Should I not consider this option? Buyback is tomorrow so let me have it with the pros and cons.:)

While reliability and gas mileage are not my only requisites, they are among the top two followed closely by functionality. It's hard to enjoy driving a car with great steering, Led lights, and great acceleration when it is a shop queen.

All new cars now, even Fiats, are very reliable compared to 10 years ago. Shop queens now refers to classic cars, high mileage cars, or lemons. I much prefer cars that have style, personality, great handling and are fun to drive. If those features fall behind reliability and mpg for you, then a car is merely a means of transportation as I stated before.

Pros:
Familiar, comfortable, new, and shiny.

Cons:
Made by VW. :/

A few people have purchased the Wolfsburg Edition Golf. Try searching this Dieselgate forum for that word and see what you find. Lots of hits when I just tried it! :)

4 weeks & 350 miles on my Wolfsburg so far. I'm liking it. My buyback is in 3 weeks so I'm occasionally driving my 2011 TDI. In all honesty the TDI does handle a bit better but not that big of a difference.
I'm liking the new tech (blind spot, rear cross traffic, front auto braking, back up camera). I like that it does feel familiar coming from the TDI.
The Wolfsburg suits my needs & for the price ($5k off sticker) it was tough to beat content wise in my opinion. I've got a 6 year newer car with a warranty which is paid for free & clear plus I actually will pocket $2600 after all is said & done.

No doubt. Our family hauler is a Ford Flex that we've owned for nearing five years. Reliable, stylish, not without its quirks but what car doesn't have something you'd personally have designed differently? The "safe" option would have been a Toyota or Honda minivan, but given the chance to do over, I wouldn't pick differently.

The "x is crap" faction of fanboyism is, in many cases, an unproductive, dishonest conversation. Specific models / years to avoid has value (avoid the '09 Flex, for instance).

I do plan on such a tactic on January 30th, my buyback appointment date. I think that Washington may waive the sales tax for Oregon buyers, but I'm not 100% sure about that. In any event, point taken.
It's not a Washington state policy. Some individual stores choose to do it as a customer service. When I was working in Southern Oregon one of our retail stores just across the border would honor no tax for Oregon customers but we had to remit them to California. I wouldn't expect something as expensive as a car sale would be honored and not as far away from the border as Olympia is. It was really intended for people who lived in Ashland/Medford to be able to shop down in Yreka instead of having to go all the way up to Roseburg. I wouldn't count on getting out of Washington tax for a car sale :)

I have also bought out of state vehicles and both of those have happened to me. I would add one more, get charged the local tax rate and have to pay the difference when I titled/registered in my state.
Oregon doesn't have sales tax. Some border towns honor that and don't charge their out of state customers sales tax. I was an Oregon resident for a few years back in the 90's and a lot of stores wouldn't charge me tax with my DL but only within a dozen or so miles of the border.

Any thought on going from a Jetta to a Subaru Impreza or Legacy? I know the Impreza's closer to the Jetta's size, but the Legacy I test drove was much more comfortable than the Impreza.
But then...
It was a Legacy Sport vs an Impreza Premium.

The Legacy is nice. I tried to get the wife to get that but she insisted on the Forester as it is possibly the easiest vehicle we have ever got in and out of. I really like the Legacy though. I thought it really compared well to my Passat.

We've had 4 TDI's in the last 15 years, we are certainly going to miss the mileage but DH and I both are getting what we really want. This is our first Jeep so we are both excited. Here's to Jeep Life!

Typically for cars if you buy it out of state they don't charge you their local as you have to show payment for registration in your own state (if it has it). Cars are different than normal retail sales.

My brother bought a Passat Wagon in Utah using a NH address (he was moving there) and Utah did not charge him and NH had no sales tax...

Just got a CPO 2014 Mercedes C250 Sport.

White with Grey interior and 18 inch 7 spoke wheels. Pretty loaded. It is pretty sweet. 6,700 miles on it.

We replaced our 2012 Golf with a 2017 Wolfsburg. Handles great, takes off fast, shifts smoothly (switched from manual to auto). Have to remember not to put diesel in it! Mileage has been better than rated- getting near 40 hwy, 34-35 overall. Happy so far.

Well, I was considering a WRX, until I stepped inside and experienced the cheap interior. Is it faster? Yeah, a bit. But after stepping into a GTI, I was sold. Still have to wait 6 weeks for the buyback so here is the older and younger bro side by side.
The Old: 2011 Golf TDI 4dr manual w/ 127k problem-free miles
The New: 2017 Golf GTI SE manual w/ 650
