Seriously looking at a Golf R, will miss some space but have had hot hatches all my life so I will survive! :)

I hope we get extra incentives if we show loyalty and buy another VW, would be nice! I love my TDI, just getting broken in as well (65,000 km) but will listen to an attractive offer.

Pretty sure the head gasket issue was fixed around 2004.
Not to say they are zero issues since then...but mostly not.
My brother in KY has a 2003 WRX. It has had zero problems but he only has 60K miles on it. He is single, owns two other cars and a pickup so the miles have been spread around.

Since I bought the JSW for hauling stuff and have already had 2 Outbacks which were not nearly as fun to drive, it will probably be a GSW. My JSW with 50K has had no issues other than a dead radio and leaking pano drain tubes. The board helped me fix both on the cheap. Will have to see if they offer a diesel or gasser with a 6 speed other than the entry level. A GSW with AWD would be great.

From an economic point of view, if I take their 5K plus the 1K loyalty money and if the dealer willing to deal, plus I wait the maximum time (2 years) which should really depreciate current value, then for me the choice is academic. From what I have read, the new 1.8 turbo gas is a great motor, plus since I retired, I am not doing the mileage and the price of regular is far cheaper.

will never happen but...

I wish VW would get this thing certified in the NA market as a "we're back and better than ever" image model. That I would buy with extra cash on top. But yeah, VW will undoubtedly get even more conservative in the aftermath of dieselgate. :(

I am expecting the numbers for my '09 to be substantially higher than the ones you mention.

A brand new DeLorean. I'm tired of road salt turning my vehicles into rust piles.

Not happening until the dieselgate investigation is over with. I'd personally would love to see a sportwagon with either the gti or golf r drive train. Talk about a sleeper!

Looking to get a GLI for me and a R line Beetle for the wife haha. Our driving is only 10 miles per day and I'm sure those cars would be fun to drive.

So after spending a lot of time poking around on this (hypothetical, I hope) question, I have determined that I need the space. And the VW is really one of the few cars that have the space, without moving up to a CUV or SUV or minivan. So that probably means a GSW.

But. But, I can't eat the rapid depreciation on a new car twice, because we're going to have to replace the other car at some point as well. So it will have to be used or CPO, into something so that the new debt is about the same as what I have left on the loan for my 2014 JSW.

So, a used gasser JSW, or maybe GSW. But I am sure I'm not the only one that likes the configuration, which means there will be others scouring the auctions for used gasser JSWs and GSWs, which means the price goes up, and I am left in some used CUV or another.

I am not one that is expecting the buyback, if there is one, to be something akin to getting a free car, thought that would sure be nice.

I jsut looked at the Limited again today, pretty good package. Dealer is dropping $3K off of sticker but I think VW will sweeten that, I think they will have to. To your point..a GTI wagon..[George Takei voice] Oh My [/George Takei voice]. Those tartan sport seats in a wagon with that drivetrain. That would keep me as a VW customer but as of right now, I am looking elsewhere.

"Oh My" indeed :D

Woah! That would be something I'd trade up for :D

$40,000 for an extended cab, 4wd and no other options, ouch.
The diesel Canyon/Colorado is only available in a crew cab, and in the SLE or SLT trims, which means the truck has many options already.
$40,000 is still an outrageous amount, but not out of line with what vehicles are going for nowadays.

If I can get dealer down to $30,000 then I might think about it. With 258,000 on 2011 JSW I doubt if they will give me $5,000 on it but if they did I might pull the trigger.

I hope they buy mine back.. and pay it off. I'm going back to my usual toyotas. If this car didn't give me so many problems early on, I wouldn't get rid of it, but it's just too much, too quick, and too expensive. Although, toyota doesn't offer anything i want anymore either. I was in the running for a Genesis sedan V8 when i bought the JSW. I may look into those again.

Holy crap, 2017 GSW to be available with 4motion and MANUAL transmission. Replacement suddenly got interesting!

Looks like a nice choice! Too bad it's only the long geared 5 speed with too much space between the gears. Really need to outfit them with a 6 speed to get the most out of the engine's powerband. Even Subaru has a 6 speed manual in the Forester.

What's wrong with a Mazda 6 or 3?
Not a thing! They are both good cars and I routinely recommend them to friends that ask for car buying advice. For taller folks north of 6 feet I always recommend a long test drive because for some taller drivers they are fine. For some others it's a mixed bag of mostly fit, but don't fit in this way kinda thing.

I'm planning on upgrading into a Black B9 Audi Allroad once they get shipped. Might wait until second model year.

It's coming with the 6-speed! That upgrade along with 4motion and Carplay make it really enticing. But it all depends on how much cash I'd have to throw on top.

And if I were a betting man, I'd say that the GSW S w/4motion and 6-spd will only last one model year, creating an instant unicorn.

When do you think pricing will come out for these?

I need to find a unicorn. Had been looking at the TSI S wagon, as I much prefer cloth, wouldn't miss most of the other stuff, and would be happy to keep cost down. Managed to find one with a MT and test drive, only minor issues were the 15"wheels, 5-speed vs 6-speed MT, and lack of seat heaters (love heated cloth combo), but none of these were likely deal-breakers. The need to jack a good-looking wagon up and add body cladding to get awd bothers me whether it is VW, Audi, Volvo, etc. So I didn't want an Alltrack, but having fwd, even with good snow tires (all our vehicles get snows) meant there would be a few ski days each year when I would prefer to take the wife's CUV thing, which pretty much rules out a MT. So I was leaning towards a TSI S wagon, but had some lingering doubt.

Seeing the 2017 S with AWD, 6-speed, 16" wheels and heated seats really seems like for once they are building a car exactly as I would want it (well, 17"s would be ideal) and now I am just about 100% sure that's what I want (dark blue over black cloth please). But, yeah, one year or more I think it will still be a unicorn.

Just visited two of the local dealers to ask all sorts of hypothetical questions, but being a legitimate 4-time VW owner I didn't feel like I was wasting their time. Waited 20 minutes at the first to talk to who I assume was the sales manager (the older guy behind the desk in the glassed-off room in a suit and tie). That this combination would be available was news to him, but he agreed that the order guide seemed legit and was going to talk to his rep who comes in weekly. But while he was very nice and took the time to talk to me for a while, he was saying that you really can't factory order a car any more, they really only come with certain option combinations, etc. but they would be happy to try and find it in the system for me.

At the second dealer I spoke with a sales guy, but obviously an experienced and knowledgeable pro. Also was news to him, but he was quick to say if they can't find the exact car in the pipeline they would be happy to order me one between about August and next February.

I guess we'll see what the news is on Tuesday, but I'm very excited that they appear to be offering this configuration. It really is almost exactly just how I would want it in my perfect world. Now even more anxiously awaiting Tuesday.

While I luv the wagon...low enough to easily put paddle boards on with good distance between bars, spot between seats to put the paddle through, and enough get up and go to get on a 60 mph highway right next to a paddle spot, I'm not sure I'd stick with VW for a gasser. Any one have any idea when the Kia Niro is going to be released in the US?

Also indicates "TDI Models TBA." VW seems optimistic (or has a plan) about getting them certified.

Yes, the 17 S AWD stick is at the top of my list with some "if's"...

*Heated seats
*Carplay
*Cloth
*6 speed
and most important...
*VW does something for us to show that we are important as VW customers. There needs to be an extra level of incentive above and beyond the initial settlement otherwise I am going back to Subaru.
