If VW buys back your JSW, what will you replace it with?

I love the A6 - and considering the unknowns about the TDI - I think it is wise to go with a CPO 3.0T. Did you already jump on it?
We're probably going to wait until next spring to purchase - we have a son who is a rising high school senior and we want to see where he ends up going to college and for how much $ before we commit. There will be plenty of 3.0Ts around next spring and I'm willing to risk driving the JSW until then.

But it is hard to exercise self-control and wait!

I'd love an MKVII GTI, but I'm trying to exercise self-control and wait! I just hope my HPFP doesn't take me out of the game!!!
Wait for what? The buyback? Or until the end of the 2 year date?

FWIW the mk7 gti is one of the best overall cars I've tested so far. I like the mini coopers, however headroom is a bit lacking for my tall frame. The gti is one of a select few that I can fit in perfectly with room to spare.

Would like a GTI but just not enough room, a GTI wagon would be perfect. I know it ain't happening.

If only they would put a gti's drive train in a sportwagon. The GSW is coming to the US with two trims that seem appealing to several folks though. Both will be AWD. The all track seems to be competing with the outback. The GSW will also get AWD tossed in the standard model :D
I believe both AWD models will start off with DSG, however manual will be offered later in the modrl.year

This is the irritating part. I really don't want to risk winter with the potential for another intercooler issue. I really, really want this car gone ASAP. But the AWD 6MT GSW is darn tempting.

You can dramatically reduce the chances of experiencing the dreaded intercooler freeze-up by drilling a tiny - like 1/16" - hole in the lower intercooler pipe.

The more I thought about the debacle, the more pissed I got.
So I’m going for the buyback.
The replacement is a 2014 Audi S4. 30K+ of existing Factory Warranty.
Every time I drive it I have an ear-to-ear grin.
Check out the youtube reviews. In every driving review the reviewer smiles when stomping on the go pedal.
I know it goes against the practical TDI but F-it, you only get so many spins on this ball!

I'm trying to decide if I should go for the buyback sooner than later, but I'm also entertaining the idea of a CP3 pump and then waiting for the fix. If the fix were available soon, I'd get the extended warranty on the pump. But as it is, I'm a sitting duck waiting for the fix if my HPFP goes on me. The cash for the fix would pay for the pump upgrade, so that's a good thing of I can get there.

I'd still like a GTI, but I'd prefer to get it in about 3 more years, or maybe even longer if my car was going strong. I'm hoping to retire in 3-years, so the mpg and range wouldn't be a big deal and I wouldn't just drive a new GTI into the ground.

I say get the cp3 pump and cr170 turbo. GTI performance and TDI efficiency- can't beat it.

If you travel lots or simply like your car and don't want to part with it...
get the following from 2micron:
-CP3 kit
-timing belt cover

Put a tune on your car and have a blast :D :D :D

I've noted I need a truck but every time I think more about it.........I really do like my JSW. It's one of the nicest cars I've driven. I see where I could probably get into a GSW Limited Edition for about break even. I lose nothing but the diesel. Which is a loss granted.

Still a 2012 with 80,000 miles for a brand new 2016 which is actually better equipped? I have to think about that now.....If VW would come out with some sweet incentives on top of that......

I might just buy a $2500 truck and trade the wagons straight up just about.

the more I drive my JSW or even my 09 sedan, the more I lean to not replacing either as it's hard to find a replacement that comes close. Just yesterday I had in my 09 well above 50 mpg and a comfortable drive coming back from the upper part of NH...

My buyback is scheduled for Nov 1 per the on-line form. I've had it with all the issues since 2004 on my two TDi's so the wife gets a new Jeep Wrangler and I start driving our Colorado, we are placing an order in a week for a new '17 JK.

It was a interesting ride but between clogged intakes, cam worries, messed up EGR Coolers (PD), frozen intercoolers (yes I finally drilled it) wondering about HPFP grenades, electrical gremlins, lost mpg from the Dec '15 reflash, upcoming additional mpg looses with the "fix" and all the other "fun" stuff good bye VW, really screwed us on this one.

I was going to keep it but the more I think about it I just don't want to chance it with all the problems that can happen. My GEICO mechanical breakdown will be up next year.

I took a Mercedes GLA45 out on Saturday. Impressive car and great performance. More than I want to spend but what isn't expensive? I don't want to give any more of my money to VW.

I also had a horrible experience at BMW trying out an X3 diesel. I'm not a BMW fan and the trip to the dealership proved that I didn't even like that. The X3 was noisy and just didn't feel like it would be a good fit. I might give it one more shot at another dealer.

You can always go the CPO route to bring the price down.

I know. But if you all of sudden couldn't make a call on your iPhone, went to the macrumors site (or other forum of your choice), and they told you the only way to start making phone calls reliably was for you, not Apple, to drill a hole in your phone would you do it?

In any event, relating to this thread, we drove the 4-door GTI Autobahn with PP yesterday - because that was the only 6MT with PP they had on hand. Was damn pleasant. Would opt for SE with PP (or just SE in '17 since PP is included). Have to say - my VW sales rep that had sold us 2 TDIs previously has been good, telling us what he knows (if anything). Also had the GTI we were coming to see already parked out front, and running to get the AC going (yes, I contributed to some pollution by appreciating an idling car, but it was a very nice gesture). I had warned him - we are rolling up with 2 kids to go kick tires, please have a 6MT on hand.

Immediately followed the GTI test with driving a 6MT Clubman All4. Nope. Felt squished up front in comparison. Failed the kid test in the back, "There's no where to put my elbow so I can sleep!" (regarding leaning on the door - guess the armrest was not placed well, and the standard 60/40 split has no rear center armrest - have to special order the 40/20/40 split). To be honest, I thought the base Clubman with the 3-cyl had more spunk (drove that last week).

Still also going to drive a 6MT Renegade tomorrow. Maybe a Focus hatch. Maybe.

Again, if the filthy lucre VW perhaps throws our way is high enough we may just go with the GTI. I could only hope there's a leftover '16 SE w/PP (and perhaps lighting) with incentives to stack on top of any potential loyalty incentives.

Dealers must love all the tire-kicking that comes with the same story - "We're all doing our homework for the fall...."

drshaws, agreed! The 3 cylinder in the clubman is spunky at the lowend. The main issue I had is once I floored it in 3rd it had no real go power. Sorry, no thanks... the clubman S had more go juice, but it still didn't really push the buttons that the GTI does.

I feel in such a quandary. When I bought my 2011, I considered it the *perfect* vehicle for me. Great styling, nice performance, utility, not a minivan or SUV, available manual tranny, and great fuel economy for the planet and my asthma. And it's affordable and doesn't yell "status symbol." No other car comes close on that checklist. Plus I customized it to where I want it - stock Nav, backup camera, mild springs, BBS, fog lights, xenons, shift kit, interior bits. If whatever fix VW comes up with considerably kills the checkboxes for fuel economy and/or performance, I seriously do not know what to do.
If you take a buy back, what cars are you considering as a replacement and why?
I plan on taking the buyback and see how long we can survive on one car while we pile on cash for a Tesla Model 3

DSG should be just fine :)

Keeping the thread on track I tested two cars today...
-Mazda cx-5
Great large hatchback. Power delivery is pretty linear, torque is meh. I fit, but only just... overall it was a good comfy ride.

-Mazda cx-9
Okay, this was a big surprise, I loved it. Great power and impressive torque output. Ride was good too. But it was just a bit big for my general needs. The MPG numbers were half of what I average with my golf. If I had kids or needed a bunch of space I'd be all over this one.

If only the turbo engine was offered in the cx-5. That would be a great combo!

I'm still leaning towards a GTI over pretty much anything I've driven so far. Offer me a incentive to buy a VW and it'll really make it a easy choice.

The CX-5 is why test drives should be longer. Like a few days. We bought a '14 CX-5 awd and sold it 9 months later. As an around-town car it was fine if a little big, but on the highway it was noisy and underpowered, plus the auto trans (yuck!) was constantly searching on hills and in headwinds. It was great looking and handled well when the roads were smooth (rare here in the Mitten), but otherwise it was disappointing. I know others really enjoy theirs, but a Jetta wagon is a much better trip car.

Already replaced it. Tesla model S 75D. The JSW has been sitting for the past year waiting to go home.

My wife and I tested a CX-5, and we also found it underpowered and very noisey.

I think we're all spoiled by our JSWs.
