:D

finally my young daughter falls asleep in the back seat, i make a turn, and then B L I N G she comes on at nearly full volume and wakes her up.

while it is true you can control the volume of the voice activated lady by adjusting the volume of the last phone conversation, it is also true that there is absolutely no correlation whatsoever between the comfort level between two volume levels.

that is to say, the volume needed for a decent phone conversation, causes the voice activation system to respond at ridiculously high level. PLEASE VW IF YOU ARE READING THIS..........THE VOICE ACTIVATION SYSTEM NEEDS ITS OWN SEPARATE VOLUME CONTROL.

until that happens, does anyone know of a fuse i can pull to disable voice activation system altogether?

My wife got so angry with her that we learned "go away" was a command to kill her off. We still laugh at the fact some one at VW figured that would be a common command.

use VCDS to change the control of the steering wheel button from "voice activation" to radio "mute". You can still use the voice activation button on the overhead console so its not like you are going to loose the option.

Following that logic peeps should no longer buy VCDS. Our investment and time is worth something.
I bought the cable bc i have two vw's and i usually do small favours for ppl for free. As i said before this forum is like a family in some way and i know lot of ontario guys do the same at car meets that we usually gather at.

sounds like you guys have quite an organized group of TDI enthusiasts up there.

have not come across anything like that yet here in my area. i have the number of a guy in this area who meets me half way between my location and his. don't mind paying the $25, although i must say it would be convenient if i could access the menus myself or get the dealer to do it.

maybe i'll swing by dealer tomorrow and inquire if they can do it.........and also remind them that i haven't yet responded to my new customer satisfaction questionnaire. :D

As someone considering buying a VCDS, as well as for anyone else interested: is the software intuitive, or will I need to go look up codes specific to my 2011 TDI somewhere?

E.g.: is it as simple as "use VCDS to change the control of the steering wheel button from "voice activation" to radio 'mute'" or do I have to consult some external reference table to know what code inputs will have the desired effect?

You need to buy the proper cable and download Beta 11.2 release VCDS. Once you have that thenyou need to go thru menu's and find the right one. I can't remember what it was or which section it was. All i did was basically deactivated the PTT button and that converted the button from PTT to Mute. (PTT=Push to Talk)

Thanks! I just bought http://store.ross-tech.com/shop/VCuCAN.html and have been looking over the software information (manuals, etc.) at http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.html

The software seems to be much more helpful than I'd (for some reason) thought.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr........

my divorce was final this afternoon. it was a bargain at $25. LOL

she's been banished permanently from the steering wheel, and now resides solely on the overhead. all the buttons on the steering wheel pertain to the radio now.......well except for the "answer phone button" in the middle of the cluster. the old voice activated button on the steering wheel is now the mute for the radio.

in case you are interested, the vag-com folder for this change is located in "central electronics" then "push to talk".

thanks again Mo Focus for the advice.

I have to get that steering wheel button changed. Getting out of the car with my 5 day old daughter sleeping soundly in her seat and hit the button and full blast screaming! Luckily she didn't get upset but I am sure somewhat startled. I was startled and was awake! Much rather it be a mute button - thanks for the tip!

Nice mod, I just changed mine too. She's yelled at me one too many times. The divorce is final and all it took was changing the 3rd to last number from 7 to 5 in the software coding.

Thanks anotherTDI and Mo Focus, but I have some additional questions:

I have gotten the VCDS up and running, and was able to finally get rid of "comfort turn signals" (I hated that every bump of the turn signal switch caused four full blinks of the turn signal. To do this, I went into "09-Cent. Elec." then to "Adaptation - 10" and from the pull-down menu selected "Lights: Comfort Turn Signals" and changed the stored value of 1 (on) to 0 (off) and saved it.

All that to say, I have VCDS up and running successfully.

However, I still cannot figure out how to turn off the PTT. The guide Mo Focus linked to has me going to controller #16 initially, but this controller is not available (Trying to connect to "16-Steering Wheel" gives "No Response from Controller!" message).

In the 09-Cent. Elec. controller, I cannot find a PTT option anywhere, nor do I know which code to switch in the coding sections of this menu.

Any help?

I'll try it on my car and get back to you. You should do one more thing.

When you plug the cable to the car, press the "door unlock" sometimes that will have an effect and once the doors are unlock it will allow you to have access to all the other controllers.
