I have seen the Audi A6 in Austraila with a 2.8 diesel and 2.7TT diesel. Are those "TDI's"?

I want a diesel engine but kinda like my A6. Can I do a a transplant?

BTW, I'm in the states..

I'm not so sure about the 2.7TT ... that's the same engine that's in a lot of Audi's (S4, A6, Allroad) and it's a 250hp gasser if I'm not mistake, not a diesel.

It's a lot easier to import an A6 tdi from Germany than it is to convert one into a tdi. I know of a guy who converted an audi into V6 tdi, theres a thread about the swap somewhere, but I asked someone how much was spent on that swap and it would be cheaper to buy a tdi audi and import it. they only charge a 2 percent tax coming into the states and you just have to make sure its a model of audi thats already been imported so it passes all the safety restrictions.

btw, I noticed your in Manheim, PA.....I buy cars out there at the auction pretty regularly. do you attend the auction there?

Yeah, I attend it on occasion. I just started getting back into the car biz. I have a friend who just open a tag-N-Title business as well as a car lot. If you need a notary or any of that work done, you should get in contact with me.

Oh and thanks a lot for the info on the swap. I figred that it would be pretty costl. I was hoping not to import anything due tothe weak dollar at the moment, but I'll see what I can find. Thanks again!

I wouldn't plan on importing one unless you have LOTS of money, as the engine needs to be one approved by the EPA or you will need to have it tested by them for an amazing cost. Far cheaper to import the parts and do it that way. You might sneak it in by taking a car to pieces and importing it in time separated shipments for reassembly, but I have heard they are cracking down on this as well.

You have grossly over exaggerated the simplicity and under exagerrated the cost of a private importation. True there is a 2 percent customs tax, however you must have the vehicle processed through a registered importer (6,000 usd plus) as well as post a bond to the NHTSA in the amount of 150 percent of the dutiable value of the car. Then you have to obtain recall insurance as well as whatever parts are needed to make the vehicle conform to US specs. I've done the research and math and totaled it would cost approx 10K for an easy importation, and up wards of 30K for a vehicle that has not been privately imported in the past.

This is the "Legal" method, other non legal methods exist but have the caveats that if discovered your european jewel will be seized and crushed.

My experience has shown that it is easiest and cheapest to convert first, then import second.

Oh the 2.7tdi is a single turbo engine. There's no such thing as a 2.8tdi. There are 2.5's 2.7, and 3.0 tdi for the V6, and the 1.9 and 2.0 for the 4 pot engines.

Don't mean to get you dreaming but the 2.7tdi can live at 7000rpm with mild tune. This motor is crying for a s256 bullseye turbo. at over 300hp it still gets 42+mpg, thats just sick! Keep an eye on this motor!
