I want a loud exhaust

So I have my a5 tdi and I have the cat and muffler gutted (still there to pass pa state inspection) and I noticed a bit of a power boost but not a lot. You can definitely here the turbo now as well. But I want it to be louder. Idk maybe I'm just weird and like loud exhausts on cars. But I don't want the "Honda" sound.

Let me know what you guy have done or hear of doing.

If you already have a straight exhaust, you aren't going to be able to get it much louder. 3" will help a bit, but that's about all you can do.

That's kinda what I thought. Does anyone make a 3" down pipe. "J-pipe" that is reasonable. Are you able to use the 2.0 tdi or gas exhaust?

What about like an open intake. Like a cold air. Will that give it more grunt lol

You can make it louder. Delete the CAT and make it 2.5" or 3" turbo back straight pipe, no CAT or muffler. No measurable power gain. A CAI won't give you any, either, you already have a CAI from the factory.

You could cut a hole in the hood and run a stack straight off the turbo. That would be loud. Personally, I think loud becomes pretty obnoxious quickly. I often wish my 7.3 was quieter.

Your car will never really be "loud," but I daily drove my straight piped Cummins for years before I bought my TDI so it may not seem as loud to me as it does to others.

My Jetta has a full 3" straight pipe and it is certainly louder than stock but once you roll the windows up you can't really hear it. What year is your car?

a turbo is a type of exhaust silencer... I ran only a down pipe on my on TII RX7 (ported turbo inlet and exhaust) and that thing sounded like a semi

You are driving the wrong type of car for a loud exhaust. If you want loud, get a knuckle dragging 50's technology Merican V8.

I drive an 06 BRM. I cut off my muffler and installed a Volant intake. No power gains at all but the car is stupid loud compared to stock. The diesels have a lot of "bass" in their exhaust sound. Driving through parking garages is hilarious.

I think the intake did the most for the noise. Volant intakes are expensive and they dont make TDI ones (I took an FSI intake and cut it) but the filters they have are absolutely massive.

I have friends with Ford 7.3 diesels with 5" pipe from the turbo only. Very little sound from the engine due to turbo so what ever you do with a 1.9 you are not going to get any sound.

Conversely, the straight pipe on my 6.0 PowerStroke was very loud (particularly under load) and the turbo sounded like a jet engine. Every engine is different.

The loudest you are going to get is running a 2.5-3" straight pipe (no cat, nothing) to a side exit on the driver's side. TDICADDGUY has this with a resonator on his NB and it is loud. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=245352

I ran a downpipe only on my Ranger for a couple test drives and it sounded like crap under load (pretty nice at idle though:eek:). I also threw together a hood stack and played around revving it at a GTG. Will have to play with that some more and go for a drive but will probably wait until I have my gtb installed before I go for the hood stack.

All turned back to VW. Now a 2017 Hundai Tuscon. Not a single squalk in 10k miles.
I'd suggest dropping a nice Cummins 5.9 into the engine bay. No sense in messing with a baby diesel.

Perhaps engine sounds you like from a nice big amp in the trunk to speakers under the seat. That way you don't have to bother everyone else!

Too many police here in New Jersey at least you don't have to worry about state inspections every 2 years here, how's the rolling coal thing going ?
No I have to worry about them every year and it's not hahaha

I had a B4 passat, with the cat gutted, and a straight pipe back from there, and you could barely tell it was missing anything. Sound from these motors, not so much.

My Dad is out in the Poconos I hear ya, my state pays for the state inspection and they are failing people less than they used to from what I hear. Modifying my emissions not an option, so many VW diesels living longer lives with mods. It seems like all these Jetta diesels from the early 2000s are all I see out on the highway, a lot of them on these threads.

Buzzken 3" straight pipe, sounds great and doesn't attract unwanted attention. Reasonably priced. You can get it with muffler or without.
