Looking for some "real world" experience - I know there are other threads about this, but I am looking for updated opinions now that there are some more mileage on the tires? I wanted Michelin Primacys but they are discontinued.... So, what are everyone's suggestions?

I have Continental Pure Contacts on our Passat and love them. When the Golf needs tires, I'll be putting them on it too.

After 89,000 miles on stock Bridgestone EL 400's, I narrowed the search down to:

1. Pirelli P7
2. Michelin Premier A/S.
3. Continental Pure Contacts

I was leaning towards #3 . The tire shop owners weighed in for the Continental Pure Contacts, . After a gentle break in, 4,000 miles have clicked away, so far so good.

Here are my desires in a tire
1. Handling
2. Quiet
3. Fuel efficiency

Do you guys think that the pure contact has all those listed qualities?

2002 TDI (ALH) with 513,000 km. First Owner and very happy... No Problems, never left us stranded on the Highway. Average useage is about between under 4 ltr. and 5 ltr. Normal longdistance travel: 4.1/100
If I need to go somewhere here in BC and the Rockies, the next set will be:

NOKIAN WR G3

Year round and with the snow flake

Drove over 30 years MICHELIN'S, now its time to get some ALL WEATHER TIRES from NOKIAN (NOKYAN).

In light of this response, I do have to add, I currently do, and intend to, run dedicated snow tires. Just makes more sense.

In the context of hitting the measured parameters important to US & bang for the buck, YES !!! All three are LRR rated.

I would be ok with the 4 Season in this area, but the law requires the Snowflake in winter (Oct. 1. - March 31) the snowflake, even if it is +30 C...., or chains in the Trunk!!!

Happy with my Michelin A/S that I have on my Subaru. Put them on last fall, they have about 30k miles on them, wearing well. They are a little squishy if you like busting into turns fast, but an overall very competent all around tire for a daily driver. Quiet, decent in the snow. I would purchase again (or for my TDI)

My wife was nice enough to take out two Bridgestone EL 400's with one pothole with only 20k on them. I replaced them with Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus, good wet traction and decent in the snow.

Im running primacy's on mine. They did not last quite as long as I thought. Going to have to change them before this winter with approx 40-45k on them.

They are still available on Tirerack at least if you still want to order them from there.

I'm glad to hear that! They are a tirerack.com TOP rated tire, albeit low overall customer mileage base. Two other reasons I went with another tire (Continental Pure Contacts) 1. Cost 33% more 2. had 15% less tread

With the older Michelin Primacy MXV4's I was reasonably certain to hit 100,000 miles to 120,000 miles. When they shaved of 1.5/32nds off the Premier AS.... ah not so sure.

The stock Bridgestone Touranza's tried to kill me on several occasion on my 2013.5 Jetta TDI. The hydroplaned consistently.

I put on Michelin Premier A/S on all four corners and I feel much safer.

I had the same experience with my OEM Hankooks. Wet handling just disappeared after 45k. Even though there was plenty of tread left. I replaced with Continental Pure Contacts. Much better tire. However I am not completely sold on them and will get Michelin Premier A/S next. My Primacys I liked more on my A4.

I put Michelin Defenders on my 09 JSW and love them so far. They have a 90 K mile warranty. I asked the dealer to confirm and they did. I personnally don't believe it ,but if I get 50k I'd be very pleased. Quiet ,smooth and good handling.

I ran Yokohama Avid H4S which changed to Avid Envigor for the last set of tires on my '93 bmw 3 series, They were a nice quite ride, handled well, wet traction became compromised after 50k tires were good for around 60k. I'm in Florida so winter here does not require any special tires though they did fine when I found freezing precip while traveling north

I've got the Defenders on mine ('12 TDI) and with 35k miles they are literally showing "NO wear", Very pleased also great in the rain. Only "ok" in heavy snow though (thanks last winter:)) but I'm very pleased I bought 'em. Pricey but you get what you pay for....

Pro contacts on my car when I purchased it Sept. last year.
One of my major concerns was winter driving after spending the last 5 yrs driving an FX4. I can say I was very impressed by the abilty to track through unplowed snow. This past week I made it to work and the streets I drove on were closed 10 minutes later due to flooding. Nice quiet ride little over 8k miles so far.

I posted this in April of 13, 2 weeks ago I replaced them with the same after almost 70k miles.

I have these on my 05 tdi two seasons now and they are great. Wet and dry performance is well worth the money.
Not sure about snow performance because i am a strong believer in dedicated directional snow tires for the winter.

I just bought 8 Yokohoma Yk580. They have great warranty and handle very well. I have to buy 2 sets as both my wife and I Jetta's needed new tires at 40k.

They much better then the tires that came from the factory. The only downside they are hard to find tires unless you have a Discount Tire close by.

Rocking the new "replacement" of the continental dws from discount tire. They are the control contact sport as. Pretty good for stock and low road noise. I haven't sacrificed any mpg at all and with the thunderstorms and rain we have had all week here in Oklahoma.....stood up pretty well against the rain. I'm about 15k in and they are still awesome after multiple long trips.
