I just ran the vin on my turned in 2014 Beetle 6M and got some really good news. It had 11000 and change on the clock when I gave it back. It was really in like new condition. I ran the vin here: https://www.vehiclehistory.com and it came back with a new Michigan title as 0f 7-11-17 with 14k miles. Somebody put some wiles on it in the 6 months since sellback.:D:D I have to say that I am really glad that it didn't get crushed and somebody is enjoying it...Mark

Why did you decide to turn in the car with only 11k miles on the clock? It was lmost brand new, unused car.
I'm curious because I own 2014 Beetle DSG with ~20k miles and initially I thought it made sense to turn it in, but I re-did my math and it really didn't make financial sense for me to get rid of it.

It's a long story, but it is well documented in Threadzilla. It just was the best thing for me in a nutshell and it worked out pretty well financially in the end, so I am happy. I just posted this because I thought that they were going to crush most of the gen 1 cars and I was happy to see that at least mine was saved. I haven't seen a thread about any others that have checked their vin, so I posted my results, it's a bit of happy news...Mark

Mine also shows a now MI title... I wonder if they're just titling them to an address in MI for the time being.

I believe so, isn't VW US headquarters in MI? Both my bought back JSW and the 15 Passat I just picked up also show MI titles on vehiclehistory.com

I guess that I am assuming that If they titled it, they are not going to crush it, am I wrong? Maybe they have to title them for some reason other than resale...Mark

few of each 2.0 and 3.0
ALL cars that were turned in get MI title because that's where VW is.

Yes, Power Of Attorney that you sign when you do buyback is not a legal ownership transfer. They must flip the title to their name to become legal owners and crush them.
Exactly
I guess that I have made an incorrect assumption about the titling of the cars. I assume that whatever happens to the car, it will be reported on the vehicle Hx report, right?...Mark

Punched in my VIN that was bought back in June, doesn't come up as beeing retitiled, granted its 140K and 7 year old ride destined to be razor blades.

I turned the Golf in late Feb and it shows with Mi title in May.

The 2011 Golf that I turned in back in December has no records of anything reflecting a change in ownership. It may already be flat.

Well, it seems that there may be a chance that if a car is retitled, that it may be destined for salvation. I hope that you folks keep running your vin and reporting the result here, we may be able to tell which cars are razor blades. I am not really sure what difference it makes, besides knowing if it is cubed or not...Mark

I sold my 2010 Jetta (only because the fix at that time looked like it wouldn't happen) at the beginning of June, turned in in New Mexico. I saw on 7/21 that it has Michigan in the report. I thought maybe they would have shipped it there but that wouldn't make sense since there are several other storage locations closer to me. The buy back specialist said they put them on a train but did not know where they go from there. Probably California/Arizona desert if it's by train.

It has 109K on it, and was really in great shape. It is sad to think that they're likely going to destroy it. For some reason I feel like I read that they were not going to destroy them unless they could not be fixed. Now that there is a fix for Gen1, perhaps they'll fix them and get them back on the road.

I put my vin in that site and I don't get any useful info at all... am I missing something?

If someone wants to run my vin, here it is: 1VWCN7A30DC142673

Turned in back in March with I believe 60k on the odo. I'll have to look at the paperwork to verify exact mileage.

Its a free site, but the info is lacking in detail, and it don't provide any info on some cars.

If you're really curious pay for a AutoCheck or Carfax report.

My pristine '13 JSW TDI 6M went back 29 August 2017 in CA's capital.

Not sure where it went.

Am sure the 2017 VW 1.4 liter turbo 5M replacement will not match the wagon's MPG.

However, the 3rd tank calculated over 40 MPG. One can only hope. Plus the '17 was a steal

I had a '16 jetta S 1.4 for a two days for warranty work. I took the jetta on a business trip up to vermont, kinda beat the crap out of it, 85mph on the highway and squealing tires almost every stop sign, tubo sounds sweet between 5-6K RPMS, it still returned 40MPG over 300 miles. I was impressed how low they geared that asain tranny down, 2K at 70+.

Thanks 740,

I'm only at six fill-ups and 2,000 miles.

I do miss my diesel wagon.

But - as you've indicated - the 1.4 turbo (I have a 5M) seems to have both power and great fuel economy potential.

all the best,

that was hand calculated too.

BTW my 2010 jetta VIN doesn't show any retitling to MI, our Passat does and it was bought after the Jetta.

Wonder if they even bothered with the jetta or just torched it right in the parking lot.
