I just changed out the MAF on my Golf and what a difference! It can really accelerate and rev up smoothly! A lot more fun to drive already!! After three weeks of fooling around I bit the bullet, bought the MAF and can say a new MAF is a far cry from the "cleaned" one I was trying to save.

Now the next step is cleaning up the EGR and intake manifold. I pulled the hose off the EGR and it has a sooty, oily wet coating in there. The other thread I read here had GREAT pics of how to do the teardown/cleanup and I will have to try it. MIne is not as bad as his was but it is not clen in there by measure. Should I be concerned with the 'wet' vs dry buildup? HIs pics showed a dry carbon that scraped and flaked off. Do I have an oil leak? From where?- head, turbo, or??

I like my Golf a lot better now- Bill

it depends on how much you are talking about. ever engine is different. a little oil isnt nessarly bad. but if your talking straight up sludge. and lots of oul thats not good. post some pics.

What is a MAF?
Mass Air Flow sensor. Measures the air flow into your engine - important in fuel injected vehicles. It's near the top end of your airbox, where the air is coming into your engine from the filter.
