Yeah. So I ended up drunk buying a 01 cummins 6spd manual with the HO motor. Front is independent Laramie 3500 slt quad cab.

I missed my beetle tdi so much and daily driving an LS1 trans am with a cam and injectors was getting old at 4 a gallon, and the car is now valuable enough for time at weekends and nights only and a Hagerty policy after paint. My trans am took a beating the last 2 years after a party totalled my 135i hard top six speed manual.

The crappy dodge body came with a s36x something massive turbo the size of a new beetle daisy wheel. A dually to a single wheel conversion was done but with all the dually parts left for me in the bed.

It is much more nimble than I thought, I have to say it's now a floater setup with single wheels on a dually rear. This thing is 20+mpg city with a single wheel bed, single wheels and a smarty S03 tuner.

I'm now having to upgrade and replace the trashed steering shaft, steering box, and rebuild the beyond dukes of hazard front end.

I miss my beetle tdi with the entire fwd audi tt suspension to the rear beam and brakes. But this 24v cummins rips hard.

Maybe one day another mkiv or b5 tdi

Independent front? Sounds interesting. You have pics?
Slightly jealous of your 6-speed lol.

There are just too many to list....
Always get a kick out of people calling it "A Cummins", because they are too ashamed to admit it's wrapped in a crappy Dodge truck. :D

A tease my buddy about his (good spiritedly) all the time. Death wobble. Rust. HVAC problems. Frame cracking at the steering box mount. Dash board literally caved in. Doors falling off. Brakes barely work. Transmission always acting up (it's a slushbox.... it's fourth....). But the engine soldiers on. Complete pile of rusty junk, but it always starts.

Chrysler should have sold those trucks withOUT the engines, so you could buy a new one for less money and just reuse the 500k mile already paid for engine.

J_dude, 2WD Dodge/Ram trucks of that vintage are indeed equipped with IFS. The later ones are not, they just use a solid axle with no diff, like 2WD Jeeps.

Oh yeah my bad I missed the “2wd” in the title lol.

And yes, I totally agree the Dodge truck barely makes for an acceptable shipping crate for the Cummins. Though I do think my 1996 is in pretty decent shape for 700k km, not much rust and the dash only has one crack 😂
Brakes aren't great though, this is at least the third front end it’s had, and yeah the doors are sloppy...

Oh I hate Chrysler with a passion. My old charger r/t Mercedes merger car was an awful ****box aside from the motor. Like this.

That said I'm surprised how decent it handles, it's a second gen.

Borgeson steering shaft, redhead 13:1 steering box and bilsteins coming.

ATS log manifold coming, these crack and mine has a Crack.

I agree I wish they came in a better package, because it's a wonderful motor I drove a 12v and decided the 24v would be worth hassle and cheaper even.

It is such a ****box inside and with a beefy frame and ridiculous drive train. The rear end is I think a Dana 80? Just massive 12" ring gear if I recall.

I wouldn't get an auto, 6spd manual was the only option.

The brakes on this thing are great.

The interior is trash the car is from the southwest with a single axle bed off an Alaskan truck peppered with rust.

Frame itself is good.

More than I need, less than I want
If GM was able to put those Cummings in their IFS 4wd trucks backed with an Allison trans they would have had something there. Both my 92 Burb and 99 Tahoe were nice trucks, albeit gassers.

Oddly enough if you find an old motorhome with a cummins they had an allison trans behind them, don't know why it didn't hit the truck market

What’s the block number on the motor ?😬 You could be in for a surprise down the road…
But I guess if it has 375k on it you may have a good one…Man I miss my 04 6spd it was a beast…“4wd”(took off the front driveshaft though and got 4-5mpg better highway) 4d long bed. Put in a dual disk and a smarty tuner and it REALLY ripped. But I do like my Lbz a whole lot more… I don’t think it’ll ever leave me. The Allison 1000 is such a pleasure to drive
