Beetle is doing fine, thanks for asking!

I have been driving it on a daily basis and it runs fine. I have a leak in the a/c lines somewhere, so no a/c, but I can live with it.

I cut the catalytic converter off it and it runs so much better!!!! I could not believe the difference in power. The converter must have been plugged up.

Beetle has 240,000 mi on it now and still going strong.

Looking for some OEM VW 17" rims if anyone wants to sell me a set!

Yes, cut the cat off and put a free flowing pipe in its place. Leave the muffler intact, but delete the cat. My car came to life after I did this procedure. Also, the turbo makes a nice whine too, especially when cruising through a parking lot at idle!

Yes, mine is 1.9 ALH TDI.

Do the ventectomy as well, you will gain 2 more gallons of fuel capacity in your tank!

And order an EGR delete race pipe from Diesel Geek . COM

I get my filters at Napa and use 15w40. We live on a farm and get our oil in 55 gallon drums from the Co Op.

Have you had any trouble getting your oil filter cap off? You know the plastic screw on/off cap that holds the oil filter? I think I am going to have to buy a new one from VW, because after 240,000mi and numerous oil changes, my cap is all rounded off and I cannot use a filter wrench on it. I have to resort to a big pair of channel locks which makes me chringe with every use.

Also, if you ever round off your oil pan drain plug, they sell new ones at Napa for $1.78!

For my oil cap, I went out and got one that's similar to this one.

Never had a problem with rounded corners on my oil cap. It works with a 3/8 ratchet and comes off easily.

I have that exact same filter wrench. My edges of the plastic cap are all rounded off. Wasnt me that did it either! Prob the prev owner and his trips to the Jiffy Lube.

I am going to go to the VW Dealer and see about ordering a new one. I will let you know how much they soak me for.

But thanks anyway LoveMyBug!

How's your car been starting up there in the Cheese State? (Was 14 degrees here this morn!)

My car's been starting just fine. No issues up here. It sounds like the previous owner was over-tightening the oil cap. I think it says right on it that it should be tightened to something like 25Nm, iirc. I believe that translates to a little more than hand tight.
