Been waiting just like everyone else and finally got my email notification this morning.

Opened it up to find that intead of being addressed to both my wife and I (both on the title) the document is addressed to and to me again.

Just spent over an hour trying to call the claim line without success, steady fast busy.

I am hoping that I can just cross off my name and write in my wife's name.

Any thoughts?

TIA!

my guess would be no, you cannot just cross off and rewrite the name. from what has been stated here VW is being very anal about each and every dotted 'i' and crossed 't'. Like requiring California Notary second page documentation of some kind usually only used for real estate, rejecting military personel expired drivers licenses, etc.

Turns out that was caused by a unique aspect of Missouri Titles. My title is free and clear and it is in my name and my wife's name. But there is also a third name (my son) who is listed as "TOD" and his name. "TOD" stands for transferred on death and refers to the death of my wife and I. Apparently some database clerk wasn't aware of this and just entered my name and my son's name (which is the same as mine)

Clearing this up is proving to be a nightmare. I tried calling the VW Claims number for six hours today before finally getting through. The person answering the phone had no idea hat I was talking about and tried to transfer me to another department. Their number was busy so she just took my name and phone number and promised that someone would call back some time in the next three days.

I also called the settlement Counsel and again, had to leave my name and number and received a promise that someone would get back to me some time.

Really aggravating.

My Missouri title is me with my wife TOD, and they didn't reject my docs for her not signing it... Haven't received my offer yet though.

My recommendation is to stay alive until your transaction is complete. :)

Of course, this is all funnier as in German, "Tod" (TOD) = Death.

"TOD" on an ownership document means "transfer on death". What this means, on this document, is that if the owner dies, title is to be transferred to his wife.

These are more common on financial accounts, such as checking accounts, certificates of deposit, brokerage accounts, etc, so that the inheritor gets the property immediately on death, the property is not part of the decedent's estate, and therefore does not go through probate.

Yes, I understand. I just thought it was funny that the acronym relating to the death of the title holder (account holder in your examples) is itself the word for "Death" in German.

The same thing happened to us, the offer letter came in and had my husbands name on it twice. Since we are both on the title, we'll both sign the paperwork and turn it in.
