A few weeks ago I got a message from my dad asking if I would be interested in a TDI Jetta. Someone had called into the shop and asked if someone would be interested in buying it for cheap.
I went out the next day and looked at it. A 2006 BRM with 280k miles, they thought the turbo was bad as its in limp mode. A kid had used it for a target for his pellet gun, so the back window is busted out and the side panels are pelted, but putting a jump pack on, it fired right up, even though it was 10 degrees.
But it wouldn't move, the brakes were stuck. So I winched it up on the bed of the rollback and gave the guy the cash and brought it down to my shop.
I know it needs a battery and the starter, which isn't an issue for me. I could hear the bupbupbup of a likely worn camshaft (no surprise there) and there was a screech sound in the exhaust... its Malone tuned, and appears to have a pd140 turbo. The body isn't terrible, it has the typical foam rust, and the headliner is coming down, but other than that, it seems fairly clean.
I plan to dig in and see if I can determine how much it'll cost to fix up, and considered maybe a ute, as I kinda would like a shop truck for my new shop...
We'll see.
I'll try to document it on here though and see what I am getting into.
