It has been an issue for a long time, no mechanics have been able to tell me what is going wrong.
2006 Jetta TDI at exactly 17000 rpm, not before or after....a strong vibration from engine, best I can tell. 5 different mechanics and still no answer. I saw something about "actuator" somewhere here once that seemed to be similar

don't rev it to 17,000rpm.
I choose to assume that the OP actually meant 1,700 rpm. There are very few internal combustion engines that can do 17,000 rpm without self-destructing. However, I do not have a good answer for his vibration problem.

Have Fun!

Have you by chance replaced your OEM CV axles with China made axles? I have had exactly what you describe running cheap Chinese axles on my brm... at first I thought it might be the dogbone mount bushing but after replacing it, the noise and vibration lessened but was still there...

Lesson learned on my end Do Not Buy Chineseum axles.

Though it feels like its coming from the front, check your rear trailing arm bushings.

had a similar experience but it turned out to be the results of worn trailing arm bushing

Didn't notice, but have you had the DMF and clutch replaced? I have the same issue around 1,800 rpm and was informed that it is when the clutch locks down. I assume if you are obtaining full clamping of the flywheel, any weak points (such as Chinese CV axles) would multiply any NVH transported through the drive system. That's my uneducated opinion. I would like to know what you find out......

I have had axle replaced, not by VW, so will check that out.
It's a automatic drive. New trany a few years ago (40k since?)
Thanks...for the "real" question/answers

Problem can be in tyres. I had similar one and problem was with one tyre. Vibration from 4th gear and ~2k rpm.

Thanks. On the road, will update in a couple of weeks if I figure it out. leaning towards cheap axle, timing seems similar.
