HPFP,Is this an injection pump ?
If so is there a way to put a fuel filter in front of it So when the injection pump grenades no Shrap metal Gets into the fuel system?
I'm new and learning , I hope I did not make a mistake by buying a Jetta !!
Between this and the recall ,I'm having my doubts.

HPFP = high pressure fuel pump. Your 2009 doesn't have an injection pump. The last injection pump TDI sold in the U.S. are the 2003 models (ALH engine code).

An injection pump not only highly pressurizes the fuel, it also controls the timing and injection quantity of fuel. Your car has a simpler high pressure pump and the injectors are electronically controlled for timing and injection quantity. Your car does run at far higher pressures, however!

I don't think there's a filter in this world that can withstand the pressure the HPFP puts out. Even if there were one, it likely wouldn't run right because it would be difficult to make the correct fuel pressure...

Besides, you've got a warranty, right?

It is the High Pressure Fuel Pump and it pressurizes the 'fuel rail' that every 'common rail' diesel has.

You have a fuel filter already and fuel is cycled and recycled through it from the tank and ?from the engine bypass?.

We have only one first hand account of a HPFP failure and a couple of second hand stories that cannot be easily nailed down. (So far, that is actually pretty good odds!)

I wouldn't worry too much at this time. Be patient, there will be more information forthcoming in time.

Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it .
I have a 2002 dodge Cummins diesel ,and it has an injection pump .
I know many of my friends had their injection pump failed and did not cause any damage to the Fuel system , they just replace the pump And went on their merry way with less money in their wallet .
Thanks David

Some fuel is always being returned to the tank and that fuel is not filtered again until it comes back through the lift pump in the tank (course filter) and then through the main fuel filter supply side.

You could put a filter in the return line to the tank which is pretty low pressure and it would prevent particles from a self destructing HPFP from getting into everything in the system except for the nozzles and the plumbing Between the HPFP, the main fuel filter return side and the return side of the main filter.

Large aircraft have return filters in there hydraulic systems and is a pretty good idea because it will reduce damage control repair to the system if something in the system self destructs.
