HPFP sources? Remanufactured? C3 vs C4?

HPFP for my '13 Treg TDI is 059-130-755-CD where the CD determines where sensors and ports face for proper fit. Dealers want a whopping $1.9K for the 'cd' variant (while another slight variant dealer asks $985. nutso VW pricing.) So, i'm looking at Ebay for $1.7K new or there's reman units for like $500 more or less. But given the nightmare job to replace the pump I'm wary of a reman. Any experience thoughts on risk of a reman unit?
Also i've seen mention of putting in a "C3" pump vs the normal "C4" pump where the C3 variant is alleged to be more reliable??? Where the C3 pump can only fit if the EGR coolr is gone, which is now the case for my CNRB engine (currently diassembled). Advice on C3 vs C4? Part # for a "C3"?

### 06-25-23 UPDATE: FOUND a good price on a CP4 HPFP. ordered today but 2nd guessing myself re CP3. .. see next post...

Darkside and Whitbread sell the CP3 pumps and kits.

And they're not allegedly more reliable, they are. It's a better design across the board.

I still find it peculiar that you'd remove a perfectly fine CP4. They don't have a best before date or anything. Do you have logs or MILs that lead you to believe it was on it's way out?

Hi PRaY4SNOw,
I dont' understand what's behind the "CP3" terminology vs CP4? or why CP3 version so much better an HPFP design than CP4?. [oh, CP3 has not such tight tolerances as CP4)... Now I'm wondering if I should cancel the order I placed today for a CP4? your thoughts too [nope, not for CNRB] @oilhammer ? I did look at Darksdide but they stated that none of their online CP3's were for Treg TDI at least for CNRB engine.

Why replace? the original HPFP I just removed is working OK, BUT and this is a huge BUT, I've done extensive browsing of this forum and Touareg forum - folks have cited HPFP low-pressure or catastrophic grenade failures ranging from 90k miles to 130K miles ($13K to fix if it grenades). My Treg is at 130K. And the R&R labor is freaking atrocious. Couldn't afford dealer labor so I did it myself in my driveway - which took me (a not great/fast mechanic) about 20 hours to get the turbo and intake manifold etc out to access a coolant leak in the V, and if the HPFP failed after that horrific access and I didn't replace it now I would have to shoot myself for poor risk mgt. I'd like to run the car for another 100K miles ++ so I doing a physical EGR delete with Darkside parts, plus turbo replacement (fair bit of shaft play) and other minor wear parts replaced. (also did a DPF/SCR delete with Malone-2.)

btw -the definitive coolant leak found in the 'V' of the motor was the plastic coolant shutoff valve which leaked from the valve's shaft, probably an O-ring in there that wore out. The EGR cooler is the other usual suspect in the V which I'm removing entirely with a Darkside kit to reroute coolant and preserve the temp sensor.

So Darkside doesn't have CP3 pumps for CNRB engine, and whitbread https://whitbreadperformance.com/co...cr-tdi-cp3-adapter-kit?variant=31413266939994 sells a reman pump and an adapter kit but doesn't list CNRB engine, BUT even if it fit, my wife would kill me if she had to wait 2-5 weeks more to get her beloved Treg back! I did find Darkside had this enhanced CP4 valve though, which sounds good for the CP4 throughput. They also have a kit to add a 5micron filter but I don't understand why the stock fuel filter isn't adequate.
https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/cp4-hpfp-metering-valve-upgrade.html >>>higher fuel flow for CP4 pumps
BTW- we use a good quality lubricity additive every tank.

Ask SavageSoot on Club Touareg, he seems to have all the measuring blocks memorized lol

Thanks but I'm quite ignorant of what needs doing to even ask savagesoot. What is the objective or change required with VCDS? Explain a bit more please?

You'll want to use VCDS to read logs of your fuel pressure and so on. He knows all the measuring blocks you'll need to log to get the data.

@TurboABA probably does too, come to think of it...

No relation.... ;)

Sorry, I haven't been around.... dealing with a hit-and-run that some dirtbag decided to pull on me. 🤬
If anyone sees a White 2008-2010 Toyota Corolla in this hood, with a busted rear passenger tail light and\or replaced tail and damage to that corner, run the MOFO off the road or get a hold of me and youtube the resulting events if you want lots of followers!

What's the question?

CP3's are not available for my CNRB engine.
Bosch sells the exact same new ...CD pump for $1000 less than VW but it takes many weeks to get from Bosch as of July '23 vs days from VW.
The original HPFP i inspected internals. The rollers, pistons and cylinders were perfect however the cam had minor pitting - which could/might eventually progress to a grenade event. (have used lubricity additive since 45K miles purchase time).

The fuel pump paranoia makes me giggle..ive owned a few cr jettas that the scared folks say pumps go all the time not seen it here...my last cr jetta is over 320k miles and never missed a beat. oh yah and it was malone stage 3.6...drove the living **** out of it...and all the bs about dont go below 1/4 tank youill wreck the fuel pump...lol bs, i drove that car to the fuel light and below EVERY tank.
like wise our 12 touareg is over 200k miles and zero pump issue...i dont believe the hype. Not worried in the least bit...for sure not so paranoid to replace a perfectly good working expensive pump..lol thats tin foil hat time
