How to Easily Dissable Your Alarm

I've been having problems with my alarm going off randomly in the middle of the night and pissing everyone off. I don't want to disconnect the battery every time I park my car and removing the windshield cowling to disconnect the horn for the alarm is a pain in the ass (it never goes back on straight and the flashers would still blink when the alarm is triggered). I did some research and read about two 15 amp fuses (S111 and S144) above the relay panel for the alarm. One fuse is for the horn, and the other is for the flashers. Here's some pictures (sorry for the crappy cellphone pics :()

First I had to cut off the white zip ties that held them in place

Then I removed the two 15 amp fuses above the relay panel (one fuse is in a white socket. The other is in a green socket)

My turn signals still work, my radio still works (I have an aftermarket HU, so I'm not sure if the stock radio would go into "safe" mode or not), I can lock/unlock my doors with the remote, and most importantly my car still starts and drives with no issues. I've pressed the panic button on my key and tried doing things that activated my alarm in the past, but it didn't go off! I plan to keep the alarm disabled until I can figure out what's setting off all the time, or just keep it disabled forever. I plan on keeping the fuses and torx bit in my glove box just in case there's an issue in the future and I need to reinstall the fuses.

When I open the rear hatch the trunk lights come on. If the switch was messed up then the lights wouldn't come on, right?

The drivers door latch will cause this also and IMO in the likely cause. Mine has been doing it for several months now. When I go outside from the YMCA to walk or run I have come back to the alarm going off. At home it is in the garage and I do not lock it normally. One night late after 3am I awoke to a alarm and it took me several minutes to figure out where it was coming from. As I got to the remote the alarm went off by itself. It could well depend which micro switch was going bad mine not only has the alarm going off now but started with lights inside sometimes nit working. I have the new switch using the VCDS to make sure it was the right switch now I have to get some help to get in. I may try your trick with the fuse and see how it works with mine.

Birdman is on track with this one. It very probably isn't even the microswitch, but rather solder joints that are broken and make intermittent contact depending on weather, temperature, stuff like that.

I repaired both my cars of these problems, but the 4-dr is doing it again. Either the repair didn't work, or the rear doors need it now since I only resoldered the two front door latch switches. (I'm voting on the latter.)

I was told by someone at Ross Tech that I can use VCDS to see what's been triggering the alarm. I plan to do that this weekend when (or if) I have a chance.

They are found in the door latch mechanism itself. You need to disassemble the door and then remove the door latch assembly. Then you disassemble the latch module - separating the mechanical part from the lighter plastic electronics part. Down by the plug where the wires plug in, there is a place where 6 pins go through that board and are soldered in place.

Because of the way that part hangs down from the mechanical portion of the latch assembly, it vibrates more and has more shock transmitted to it when the door is closed and hits the door anchor bolt. This vibration and shock will eventually cause the solder joints to break. They stay where they are put, but the nature of the break can cause intermittent operation of the circuits (opening and closing of the broken joints), which lead many to assume that it is one or more of the microswitches that are bad (there's 4 of them on the driver's side).

Look up the 'stupid door switch' thread, and read the door disassembly directions on the linked vwvortex thread.

There's special tools other than the usual: xzn bits, and to disassemble the actual latch, you will also need a 10 and an 8 torx bit. You also need a very tiny xzn bit for the lock cylinder itself, but the 10 torx seems to work OK.

I'd invite you over to my place and we could get this done in a couple of hours, but it appears the commute is rather daunting at best... ;)

Cheers, and HTH!

Look at pictures on page 24 of the thread Power Hound mentioned. It shows the soldering locations.

So with these fueses out, does this disable the immobilizer as well? As in, if you lock the car (say bad driver door switch) and then unlock it and start the car... under an immobilized situation the engine will cut off instantly. Is this bypassed?

My mother's 99 Beetle had the horn disconnected because the alarm kept going off (bad driver door lock). We replaced it (had to in order to recode the key FOBs) but the car only flashes, doens't beep, and if this can be permanently disabled... I'd like to do it to her and dad's. Just because it's going to become an issue down the line.

Thank you sooooo much. This worked like a charm! I also have a stock radio and it works perfectly. My wife and kids thank you for the uninterrupted sleep.

Just did this to a buddy's 2000 Jetta. Worked great. His is likely water intrusion related. His keyfob doesn't work, but did not before this alarm issue was fixed. I suspect that dry weather may allow his keyfob to work again, he is just glad not to be honking alarm all the time.

edit: He was able to get the keyfob to work again by following this procedure:

Press unlock on the key fob and/or unlock the drivers door from the outside with the key in the lock cylinder.

To lock the doors without setting the alarm, go to the passenger door and use the electric lock switch to lock the doors, and then close the door. It will lock all doors and no alarm.

This worked for me

This worked for me with no negative side effects.
Note that fuses 111 & 144 from the wiring diagram cross reference to fuses F & G in the fuse table.

I have pictorial instructions on how to do this but I am not allowed to add attachments (because I'm a newbie?)

pics need to be uploaded to a separate server and then the link posted here in your thread. Instructions in my signature. Keep the resolution down to about 800x600 so as not to blow the page margins out here, making the thread difficult to read.

Hello I wonder if anyone can help, I try to do all my repairs on my golf mk 5 however ive recently had the abs pump go which set me back a pretty penny, but ive also had long propels with a battery drain, I took it into an auto electrician especially and they found no drain however it drains after a few days, and just now my can latch on the door has just gone and when I take the key out after driving there's a funny drain sound, I wonder has anyone had this issue and could it be related to the above, I spent a small fortune for them to tell me nothing so I'm on my own again,

any advise would be great, I have a little one so trying to find the right answer if its out there!
thanks Charlotte
