So yeah, you can pay it off now, and get the money back later from VW. Or just ride it out make your monthly and pocket the difference come March 2017.

52k miles on a 2010 Golf yields a buyback mileage adjustment of $1200. Where does the extra $3900 come from? It looks like you're trying to come up with a minimum mileage adjustment of +$5100, which isn't the way it works.

You've got the correct base buyback price for your car, and the correct adjustment for options. Now you also need to figure the modification amount ($5067, + $110 for the DSG, or $5177). To that, add the mileage adjustment for modification ($200, for a new total of $5377). If, and only if, the modification amount is less than $5100, you do further calculations. Your modification amount isn't, so no further changes. Your buyback would be $17,327.
thanks, knew that was high... i read the below as i should add the 1,200 to the difference of 5,100 and 1,200, which is 3,900... it even still literally reads that way to me now, even though that would be a convoluted step in the equation (it is VAG after all!)

"If the Modification amount from (5) above is less than $5,100:
a. Subtract the Modification amount from (5) from $5,100.
b. For Buyback: Add the result from (a) to the number from (5) above.
This is your Mileage‐Adjusted Buyback Amount."

The Modification amount is not the Mileage Adjustment. The Modification amount is the amount they'll pay you if you have the car modified.

It is also the Owner Restitution payment, which is subject to a 5100 minimum. To see if you need to adjust anything, take column 2, +- miles +- options, if under 5100, subtract the number you got from 5100, you will need this in a minute.

Now take the column 1 number, +- miles +- options. If you got something from the first step, you add it here, that's how you are certain to get the 5100 minimum.

Math hurts my brain

I need some help from somebody that can math, I'm a radio Dj and don't math much if any lol, I can math the numbers and keep getting different amounts, The big problem I have is I purchased the car in November last year so I split some part of my offer with the previous owner. If anyone would take the time to help me I would greatly appreciate it.
2009 Jetta Sportwagen in Eastern $13877
6 speed manual -$600
Pano roof +$540
Current mileage that will not increase(car has been parked for months) 138961
I would just like to know an estimate of what I may be getting back. Also I bought the car from a Nissan dealership after a friend of mine traded it in on a new car, I wonder if he or the dealer will get the other half of the money? it sat on their lot for a couple of months I know.

Looks to me like your cut is $10,100, assuming an October buyback.

A November buyback bumps it up to $10,275.

$13817-1770+603-2550 = $10,100 (October)

$13817-1560+568-2550 = $10,275 (November)

All depends on dates. Your friend, as a seller after 9/18/2015 can claim 50% of the owner restitution payment. The dealer, because they bought after 9/18/15, cannot claim the seller benefit as they didn't own the car 9/18/15.

If your friend sold before 9/18/15, then the dealer becomes the owner on 9/18/15, and they can claim the 50%, having sold to you after 9/18/15, unless they own a VW dealership, as they are then excluded from the settlement , depending on how the trade resulted in the dealer owning the car (this part is murky as it depends on how the business is set up).

It's actually the FTC that made those documents, I believe.

I work at Carmax and a very nice 2012 Jetta Sportwagen with low miles hit our inventory and I couldn't resist the price, so I added a second TDI to the family.

SE Buyback is 20,777
Sound System 360
Nav 660
Pano 630
Mileage 750
TOTAL 23,177

Subtract 50% to previous owner = 20,189

$17,957 - 2011 JSW, 6M, Pano, estimated miles in October 91250(I'm getting ready to park it and not drive it much).

I'd be pretty happy with that number.

Now I just don't know what to buy. Everything is some sort of trade off.

He said it booked at around $12k when he traded it in, I don't think $10k will get me out of the car, it is completely immaculate and looks and drives like brand new. I think I'll just start driving it again as my MK1 doesn't have A/C lol

BuyBack $22,637
Credit SR $ 780

In addition to above; I added a rear view camera for $380.
My only issue will be likely tire replacement before 43,000.
If I go to 48,000 miles the buyback is reduced $690 or 13.8 cents per mile.

Now TDI-free, but there now is a 15 MB E250 BT in the driveway
That all sounds good, but don't forget that VW is putting a fixed number of dollars in the pot. There is a chance that the pot could run dry before you submit your claim. Which means that you could get ZERO! I would be very careful.

Good point Airpizz6, I'll take that under advisement. I just need to wait until late 2017 when various 2018 model year cars become available (all new Camry and Accord, possible Benz E Class diesel, etc) with more autonomous modes. The new Tiguan sounds particularly exciting although I'm not a SUV fan but will take a look. Also, I'm hoping VW returns to the diesel market. My dealer thinks they might in 2017.

Agreed. The sooner the better. I'd rather lose out on a few hundred than a few thousand or a lot more.

The pool was sized based on 100% buyback rate and 100% lease termination. Basically, it can't run out.

What proposed month/year would you be turning the car back? It's needed to estimate the miles driven calculation.

If we take the buyback would probably be Oct of 2016. Wife wants to keep it so idk what to do there.

What is the general consensus if you keep the car and take the settlement (not the buy back), will you be forced to modify the car to comply?

Ok, I'm confused by the bought after September 15th money. I'm in this crew. My adjustment is around 14,000.

If I sold it back what would I get? I know there is something about a 50% split with the previous owner, but splitting a buy back doesn't make sense. Or is it just split if I keep and modify?

Or would I get the ~$14k for selling it back and then split the $5100 with the previous owner?

I've got a 2010 JSW.
Thanks,
Ryan

Think I may have figured it out..please correct me if I'm wrong. The buyback value according to the calculator is $14,925. The modification amount is $5100. So the PO would get half of $5100 ($2550) which would basically be subtracted from the amount that I would get. So $14,925-$2550= $12,375. So if I sold it back that is the amount I would get?

Is this correct reasoning?

Subtract 1/2 of the modification amount from the listed buyback amount (after options and mileage adjustments) and that is what the buyer gets. Listed 'buybacks' include the restitution amount....Another way to look at it is that you get 100% of the NADA clean-trade in value + 10% of the value + $2550 minimum.

So I just did the calculation twice and this is what I got:

2010 Jetta SportWagen 4D TDI $15,497.00
Option: Navigation System $570.00
Option: Power Sunroof $540.00
Miles: 45001 - 50000
Odometer miles: 63000
Calculation month: October 2016
Mileage Adjustment: -13546
Effective miles: 49454 $1,980.00
Further Adjustment $0
(Total) $18,587.00

Here is my question. Sadly last week I got hit driving home from work (other guy's fault) but the car is still driveable. The insurance estimated the damage at about $4300 and has agreed to pay me the estimate. Should I get the car fixed, or should I pocket the damages and leave the car as-is until VW buys it back in October? Will I still get the total estimated above even with a damaged car?

Many many apologies if this has been asked before, was having trouble finding an answer.

Pocket the money. As the proposed settlement reads, condition of the car isn't a factor in the buyback.
