TDI buyback math

I think that is correct. I have a 2015 Golf TSI SE. They have just one base number for the turn in or fix and don't have the adjustments for xenon headlamps but the numbers seem reasonable.

Mine looks to be $27k for turn in or $7k for fix. I have not figured out which I will do but the net effect of the turn in is about $0.48 per mile. I figure I turned in a car worth $1500 and paid $28500 and paid $460 a month for 18 months since Dec. 14. Add in insurance and fuel, and my ~30k miles cost net $14300.

If the car costs me net $23k after the fix money and I use it for six years at 19,000 miles a year, the total is $34,550 for car, fuel and insurance. How much for maintenance and repair? if I add $5000 which is entirely arbitrary, that's $39,550 for 114,000 miles and the cost per mile is $0.347.

So if you love the car and are ok with assuming 40 mpg and $3 per gallon that is what my math came up with. BTW My insurance is $500 per year.

That's rolling the dice on an HPFP, TURBO or another DPF
for God's sake I just spent $2500 last August for a new DPF, how lucky do I feel to wait 2 years and not take a $11,447 check ASAP ?

I have a 2015 VW Golf SEL Wagon, it looks to be around a $28500 value, question besides the reduction in price due to driving more (the car currently has 15K on it) does it make sense to hold the car until the just before May 2018 deadline. It looks to me it will still have the $28.5 K less the extra miles I'd drive over the next couple of years. $28.5K is only 1500 less than I payed for it new a year ago. If this is true I might as well just keep driving it to the deadline before turning it in. I only drive around 10K miles a year.

If it gets totalled, you are out of the buyback..

I was curious how the numbers would look if I continued accumulating miles on my two year old car at the same rate. The only thing that would change is the mileage adjustment with 69K miles instead of 46K miles. The adjustment only goes up $810 to $1560. So it seems to me no reason to rush into it, since only $810 of depreciation for another year and 23,000 miles isn't a bad deal. Maybe that's enough time for the GSW TDI to come back.

Price Paid: $29,300 (OTD, including tax, title, reg).

Total Cost of Ownership for 39 months (by October): $833.00, or $21.46 per month.

But wait, there's more. I financed the entire amount on a 0.0% VW loan. Figure 1.5% inflation per year, and, well, basically, this was a free car.

I argued on this forum that a price paid buyback was a likely outcome. That didn't happen, at least not officially. But for some, like me, it essentially did. And if I where to park this car for a year or 18 months, I would be making money on the mileage adjustment.

One thing's for sure, this will be the best deal I'll ever get on a car in my lifetime.

Step 2 - Figuring from Sept 2015 to July 2016, 1042 X 10 = 10,420
Step 3 - Adjusted Mileage is 16700 - 10420 = 6,280
Step 4 - Lookup for Adjusted Mileage of 6,280 under MY2014 gives Buyback Adjustment of $1,950
Step 5 - Add Buyback Adjustment of $1,950 to Attachment 1A Buyback of $29,927, yielding a Buyback Amount of $31,877

(And then we'll take it to move him to college, park it unless he has to run around town, and then have him bring it back to trade it in October.)

We'll be getting back more than we paid for it last year. We're sad to let this car go - but it doesn't make much sense for us to keep it - especially with a $1500 repair looming.

I have a 2014 SEL Premium and I calculate I'll get approx. $28,450 +$1,000 already from Goodwill = $29,450. Paid about that amount at purchase so I'm letting them buyback. I still like the Passat so I'll likely end up with another new SEL Premium. I'm looking at the Sonata Hybrid too since I love the mileage. But don't know of any other car I would look at currently. That may change with the 2017's come out and I see something new. I may also look at certified Mercedes or BMW diesels.

I put on 40k miles this year. So I'm getting hammered for mileage. If I calculate with 40k less miles I wouldn't take a mileage hit at all and it would be in my acceptable range for a buyback. It may not be a bad deal if you were planning on selling your car but I had no plans to sell for many years. I have other financial obligations now (buying a house) and have refinanced my car so buying another new car isn't an option and I'm not letting them have my well maintained car so I can buy someone else's poorly maintained used trade in car that they didn't change the oil on for the first 18000 miles and flicked their boogers under the seat and spilled coffee inside the center console. And the fix is not an option for me either. I'd burn through the warranty in no time and have already had major issues with the factory emissions system which would require repair before VW would even do their "fix"

You all need to read the stipulations document

Stipulation XIII.I says that if you have elected the fix, you will not be paid until the fix is performed. It's on page 36.

This will keep owners from taking the money and not getting the car fixed which makes sense except that it was not clear that an approved fix was agreed upon. Also, if there is compensation, it needs to be calculated based on present and not future value.

Last there is no mention of performance or mileage. Remember that they are saying the performance and mileage will not be less than 5% off. If not in stipulations, not binding.

My 09 JSW with roughly 55,000 on the ODO works out to about $16,800. If I wait a couple months past October I will likely get to add a another $420 as we put very few miles on the car.

Could be one heck of a down payment for a Model S.

As it stands right now, it's all one amount that is given to you either by Electronic Payment (an ACH deposit) or by a check.

Now, having said that... I would be very surprised if the VW Dealers wouldn't be able to arrange for you to have the check be given directly to the dealer. Otherwise, you turn the car in and then have to *wait* for the check (or ACH deposit to be made) before you can do anything to obtain a replacement vehicle - and the VW dealers will want to do anything they can to retain your business.

Definition of Power Seats...

Help!

Does my 2014 Jetta TDI I4 (Eastern) have power seats? Recline and lumbar adjusters are powered, but legroom and height adjusters are not.

To me, power seats means all four adjustments are powered.

It doesn't make that much of a difference
Base = 23,747

Mileage (to October) = -4,440 (this is why the power seat question isn't that big a deal: 88,000 miles projected to October)

Total = 20,447

The money is yours to do with as you please. I have a feeling that the government mandated that piece of this. By having it written into the rules of the settlement that you will receive the buyback amount in full - less the amount of any loan payoff - in a direct fashion, you can choose to cut all ties as soon as the money is in your account.

The smart move by VW would have been to push hard for an immediate trade in at the buyback price - and then compensate dealers. I'm more than happy with the buyback amount and would like to trade for a new TSI right now. It would be a win-win for owners and dealers - and, of course, VW - if we could take the cars in right now and get the buyback value on a quick trade in.

My post 09/15 purchased 2013 TDI with 58,000 miles and Nav/Sunroof and Lighting Package Modify check is 6427 - 50% to prior owner.

BuyBack is 23627 minus 50% Modify payout= 3213.50 to proir owner or 20413.50

Minus mileage deduction of 420.00 or 19,999.50

My question is the car was not privately owned at time of scandel release and was part of a dealer inventory. Am I still liable to split the modify payout?

Why would you get a tax bill? It's not income. There's no "gain" or interest. You're just being made whole. Only if there were " punitive" damages would there be tax consequences.
