How Much Longer Must I Wait for a 2015 Sportwagen.

2015 TDI MT Sportwagon.
This morning my wife and I factory ordered a 2015 Sportwagen. (TDI with a manual 6 speed with "Sight and Sound", "Convenience" and "Navigation" packages on the Comfortline Trim (Canada)).
At that time (March 19) our order was actually an existing order of another dealership that our dealership was able to secure, so technically speaking it wasn't a completely new order. But it is now 3 weeks later and still no VIN. (I take it that when the car is in production the VIN is born?). I would have thought that March 19 was reasonably early for an order for this vehicle. The dealership has said that delivery is still slated for the end of May :(.

we finally have our dream "family truckster"

They're officially launching this week, with most dealers only getting two at first (one gasoline, one diesel, with varying trims and packages) and full distribution starting later this month or in May. DO NOT let some dealer convince you to pay over sticker or an added "regional adjustment" because they are in such high demand. You can absolutely buy exactly the one you want, at sticker, you're just going to need to do a lot of aggressive cold calling as they're selling within hours.

I noticed other than a new "coming soon" posted today, VW still doesn't have anything up on their USA web site about the new wagon so if anyone has any questions I'll be happy to try and answer them. You can find a lot out from forums, and of course the wagon is extremely similar to the Mk7 Golf, but if you want to know anything about the rear end it's hard to find reliable information right now so I'm happy to share!

(our biggest surprises were the AC inverter and third DC outlet) :D

ETA: here's a little album of some more pics if anyone is interested

Fyi, the U.S. site http://knowyourvw.com has had the GSW info for a couple weeks.

I found this US VIN on a dealer's website for a 2015 GSW SEL: 3VWCA7AU3FM500256 -- and it works for access to the owner's manual.

Nice one! Lighting package on an SEL and three pedals! Well done.

I was certain that I would have a '15 GSW since the '09 was my wife's all time favorite car.
Well we test drove one and she did NOT like it!
We tried Tiguans etc. and have driven Hyundai, Ford and all of the similar vehicles and she still preferred her JSW.
To make a long story shorter we ended up getting her a 2013 JSW TDI DSG with 28K miles. This car is LIKE NEW!
Wife is happy, and I have been upgraded from a 2002 Prius with 190,000 miles to the 2009 with 234,000 miles.
I would have sworn that she would have loved the 2015 GSW, but who can out guess their wife!

Interesting, what didn't she like? My wife loves her 2013 bought new in Dec. '12. Some things seem retrograde on the Mk VII like loss of IRS and the smaller fuel capacity.

In short, you can have her '13 when you can pry her cold dead hands from the wheel :p

Pretty much.
Plus she likes to listen to books on CD from the library and the CD player is in the glove box. A decidedly negative thing.
SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED was obeyed.
All is good and I saved a little money. The surprising thing is I bought it after having put 234,000 miles on the 2009 JSW. I finally decided that the car would last long enough to get the good out of it! Irritating VW problems aside.
We just had too many high mileage/older cars to not upgrade.
Suburban 1990 - 127,000 miles (old and gas hog, but will carry nearly anything.
Prius 2002 - 190,000 miles Pretty reliable, but still a dull JAP tin can and 13 years old
VW JSW 2009 - 234,000 miles what can I say? Still a nice driving car, but needs attention - timing belt, DMF, tires etc. It just became my drive to work 25 miles each way car. 46 MPG at ~55 mph Almost as good as the Prius, but more expensive fuel .
VW JSW 2013 Nice "new" car. 29,000 miles. Time to start over. At least I know what to look for and how to work on most of it. Still have that darned hole in the roof!

I'm surprised as well, having driven a Mk6 Golf and Mk7 Golf back-to-back, and vastly preferring the Mk7 engine.

I get the arguments on IRS and fuel capacity, but it doesn't sound like that was why RB55's wife didn't like it.

Perhaps a matter of familiarity vs. unfamiliarity, too. But hey, happy is happy!

Also, what's a CD?

I went to new dealer open house yesterday and saw a new GSW. It was nice, liked the new body style a lot better! That being said, I am sticking with my B5.5 Wagon. It is paid for. If I were shopping for a new wagon this would be the one with a manual trans.

Stopped by a dealership to look at the GSW while I was out of town on Wednesday. They had a highline version in the showroom (sorry, don't know the US equivalent, but it's the one with real leather). Anyway, I love the sports seats. Great feel. Got the seat and wheel at just the right settings. Can we do a test drive? Nope, have to make an appointment. What? Can I wait? No all booked up.

Maybe I'll have better luck at my local dealer on the weekend. We'll see what happens after that. Since the AWD version will be gas only, there's no sense in waiting for it now.

The GSW is now on VW's site in the US. I built one this AM, pretty reasonably priced. Good thing I don't like a lot of features, because if I don't want the sunroof (which I don't) I have to get the S.

Not yet. It's a nice drive, however. New platform is a big step forward in stiffness and NVH compared to the MKVI. And the engine is sweet. Haven't driven a manual yet.

what are the odds they will let you get more without the sunroof next year?

I agree with you that the glass roof is not something i want, but those heated seats are easy to get used to.

Don't like heated seats either, so I'm in luck. Had my Golf for over 3 years and never turned them on.

With the packages that most manufacturers have gone to, the options you get on the S model now will probably be the same until the MKVIII.

I have a lot of back trouble. Two things give me relief: cycling and other vigorous exercise (surprisingly), and the heated seats in our VWs. :p

I rarely turn them off from October through April, and even sometimes use them on cool days in summer if my back is particularly nasty.

I've really been enjoying our Sportwagen, we got the SEL TDI, easily gets over 50 mpg on the highway, but only about 27 in stop and go driving. Its smaller than what I'm used to, (2004 Camry) but still seats four. I don't consider it a five passenger car for adults, but three kids in back would be okay.

The acceleration is actually better than I was expecting offline acceleration is very good, if you floor it I can't say I detect any lag at all. Mid-range is also good, however the top end could be more responsive. If you don't floor it, its slow, I guess that's part of the trade off for good mileage.

Handling is okay, actually pretty good up to about 90% beyond that you do feel the lack of a fully independent rear suspension.

I haven't spent that much time with it, but if I were to suggest improvements I would like the choice of not getting a sunroof at all trim levels. It could really use a larger fuel tank. The navigation pretty much sucks, and not just because the screen is small and low resolution. I would love to see Google Maps fully integrated into future Sportwagens. Lastly it really needs IRS.

Oh another 100 horsepower or so would be great.

You won't see that newer TDI on this side of the pond for at least a decade, I reckon.

Your MPG details are interesting. I'm getting about 42mpg (per trip computer) on my daily commute, which is about 1/4 freeway and 3/4 stop & go traffic. On a recent highway-only trip, I got 44mpg (per trip computer).

I totally agree that it could use a larger fuel tank. The dang California Emissions standards that require the stupid AdBlue are to blame for it shrinking from 55l in previous generations to 50l.

I believe the US has had 50 state diesel emissions for the past several years. But they were born in California. And aren't you getting 500+ miles out of a tank? I love the 700+ my '02 gets, and the 800+ my Passat easily gets. But I could live with 500.

With my '01, I used to get 680 miles on a tank of mixed driving.

The AdBlue thing is silly... Our diesels are already cleaner than gassers, why do they have to artificially "improve" it?

And yes, I'd much rather get 650 miles between fills and not have the added overhead with AdBlue.
