How much do you drive?

I put a little over 80k miles in 4 years on my Mk4 before I sold it. I've now owned my Mk7 for just about 2 months and I'm closing in on 4000 miles. Admittedly, I put 1000 miles on in my first week......but that was due to the excitement of having a new car! Anyways, I figure then that I've put about 3000 miles on in the last 7 or 8 weeks of normal daily driving. It's due to my 30~ mile (one way) commute to work on top of the occasional errand and some recreation. No long road trips yet. If I keep this up I'll be looking at probably over 20k miles by my first anniversary of ownership. I find this excessive.

Looking at it another way, if I plan on owning the car for at least 10 years, roughly 20~ a year will put me over 200k miles at 10 years of ownership. My 2000 Mk4 had 306k miles when I sold it...so in the end I guess my driving habits aren't anything to be ashamed of.

Cars, especially TDIs, are made to be driven, but what do you consider too much? How much do YOU drive?

Not much, though I did put almost 7000 miles on my Sportwagen in a month. That was for a trip.

I typically drive 20-25k miles a year, my recent vehicles have started to "fall apart" right at the 100k mark, I've always wanted a VW diesel....so we'll see.

I sort of "defaulted" into my 2015 GSW Tdi because my Nissan Quest required expensive repairs at 102K miles.....I've never reached 200k in any vehicle, I'd like to, maybe this is the one, I'll let you know in 8 years or so!

IMHO, cars are meant to drive; for fun, as tools, or to work, if you can't drive them without worrying about miles, what's the point?

Anticipating 30,000 miles per year mainly due to a 125 mile per day commute, which is the reason I bought a mk vii tdi. My highest mile year was 30,000 on motorcycles, 15,000 in a car.

20 to 22k miles per year.... that would include commutes and road trips. I had a TSI for a while and liked it but I found myself scaling back on driving for fear of running up the miles. I like to be able to get out and experience things.

There are just too many to list....
~100 miles a day under normal workday conditions. Wife is a stay-at-home mom now, but when she was working, she put 45k miles on our then new 2004 Passat in 12.5 months.

I'd say total I drive about 60k miles a year, but it is spread out over a few vehicles.

I've taken two past 400k miles, and one is fast approaching 500k miles (although only the last 120k are mine).

Had my car almost exactly 1 year now. Almost exactly 17k miles.

Hard miles. City, potholes, snow, dog slobbering on rear windows :)

OP, ive had my golf tdi for 11.5 months and am at 19900 mi. My commute is similar to yours 30-32 1-way depending on the route I take plus the trips to the gym, and store. I do have a motorcycle that I recently got a few months ago and I try to drive that atleast once a week.

Wow 200 miles a day. I thought Barrie-Toronto was about the longest anyone would do, and that's roughly 180 km round trip (112 miles).
I travel from the Woodstock area down to Niagara area to work. Mostly free flowing highway so not too bad. Just less than 4 hours a day driving. No aches or pains. Much quieter than the Focus car replaced

I'm a regional rep, so I travel 100% for work unless taking an office day at the house for paper work.

Company car: ARI says I average just over 4k/month. That puts me typically between 45-50 a year on the company car (Impala atm), we trade them in @ 100k typically, and I go through one every 2 years roughly depending on when the ordering season happens, right now I'm sitting @ 62k on the 2014 Impala (excellent car btw)

Personal cars: Well I picked up the GSW in April, and I'm at just under 7k. I typically drive between 18-20k on the personal setups, given me around 60-70k a year between my two cars, that I only drive (GF refuses to learn a manual). I will put a few miles on her Honda, she does about 30k a year because of her hour commute M-F. As a household, we easily get very close to 100k/year

I'm at 25,600miles in 7-8 months of driving the golf, 10,000 miles on the Passat in 4 months, and a few k miles on rentals and loaners.
I'm at about 50-75k /year.

I log around 55k miles per year. 100k miles is a little under 2 years of driving for me.:eek:

How much is too much? It's always too early to tell! It's sort of like TDI longevity questions that come up from time to time in the forums. My standard answer for those longevity questions is "I'm only at ________ miles on my TDI and it's still way too early to tell (how much longer it will last)." When I sold my 02 Golf TDI with only 361k miles on it to a coworker whose son needed a car for college, it was still way too early to tell how much longer it will last. That TDI is still on the road today and closing in on 400k miles.
