I have been reading that it is not uncommon that our neighbours south of the border in the USA have been paying above MSRP price for new TDI's. To be fair I have also heard of cases where discounts have been had for as much as 2,000$ below MSRP.

I am wondering kind of deals we are getting up here in Canada? I wonder if there is the same demand / shortage as there seems to be some places in the US?

Myself, i got a 2010 Golf Wagen Comfortline trim, with the Multimedia option.

For $28,632 CAD after PDI , and all the dealer fees, undercoating etc...

That price was before tax, there was also a 100$ rebate applied after the taxes were.

In the end this represented about a $1200 CAD discount to MSRP on the 36 months @2.9% with no trade in and nothing down.

I used the service of a 'professional dealer' to go haggle that deal for me. Cost me nothing on my end. and was much better than the measely $700.00 I was able to negotiate on my own. All in all I am happy with the results.

I am curious if any other Canadians are will share their details here?

unfortunately there are no big GOVT sponsored rebates here (unless I missed something, doh!)

The best that I am being quoted is invoice plus $1000, so for the same car you got it is $28,235, including all but taxes. If anyone knows of a better deal, please let me know, as I will be buying very soon

trevorf93,

does that include the dealer admin fee, freight, tire tax, a/c tax and all the other nonsense they tack on?

The best deal I could get in my region was 200$ under MSRP for a 2010 Golf TDI Highline (not a wagon). That included window tint all around.

From what I understood, I could have got a better deal on a Wagon since they had a few sitting in the lot. But they don't seem to move too much from MSRP when you order a TDI golf from Germany...

Since my car's estimated delivery is in late march 2010, I won't negociate my financing untli late january so I don't know if I can still gain a little there.

Mat,

Congrats on the great car! Very Exciting!

They will tell you all sorts of things, I really hate dealing with them sometimes. I wasn't up for much of a fight, so I had a 'professional dealer' do the hunting for me. Sort of like a 'head-hunter'

Basically I told him what I wanted, Model, tranny, options and colour, then he called around to a few dealerships near me. He negotiates with the fleet and leasing representative at the dealership, from what I understand it is a totally different sales channel from the floor salesmen you would meet at the same dealership. It turns out that there are less 'extra fees' when it is done that way, I had a call back from my 'head-hunter' later that same day and he gave me the details. When I decided to take the plunge he gave me the contact info of the 'Fleet and Lease Return Manager' at my local dealership. When I went in she had the paperwork all ready for me. I guess my 'head-hunter' got a commission somehow in the process. But the service was free to me and I thoroughly enjoyed the service. It was a refreshing way to do this.

Here are the details from the invoice: (Canadian dollars)

26,875.00 Vehicle MSRP model# AJ539L(2010 Golf Wagen, comfortline)
1,000.00 Multimedia Package model # P70
=======
27,875.00 Total Basic Vehicle cost
- 741.64 DEALERS DISCOUNT
========
27,133.36 Total Sales Price
+ 29.20 Env. Recovery Fee
+1,365.00 Freight
+ 100.00 Fed. AC Tax
+ 5.00 OMVIC Fee
=========
28,632.56 Total Vehicle Price
+2,290.60 PST Tax (provincial sale tax)
+1,431.63 GST (goods and service tax)
- 100.00 Fuel Tax Rebate
=========
32,254.79 Total Purchase Price

or $937.81 CAD financed for 36 months at 2.9%

Maybe I could have done better, but I am happy with the deal I got and it was pretty painless.

It's good to see they are willing to negotiate up here.:eek:

it's too bad there are no cash for clunkers and other GOVT rebates up here:cool:

there is, but it's only 300$ and you must have a car that is 1995 or older.

We got our 5dr golf highline for 750$ below MSRP.

Wow mo_focus, that's a really good deal!
All 4 dealers in Quebec city talk to each other and they were all charging a 300$ markup on the TDI golfs at first. I got them to go 200$ below MSRP and give me window tint.

I have the feeling I should have got quotes from Montreal dealers too, so that I would have been able to deal a bit more.

Oh well... 200$ below is better than those 2K$ markups they get in the States...

2010 Golf Wagon TDI Highline Manual (On Order!)
Hi, newbie here. Just ordered my new 2010 Golf Sportwagen highline manual, black, in New Brunswick. Managed $750 off MSRP, with the dealer throwing in winter floor mats, dropping fees like "nitrogen for life" and rustproofing, and car coming in December. Even better, as I sold my other car privately, they are putting the trade through the dealer to save some tax. They're also giving me a loaner from their preowned lot to drive until my wagon (?wagen) arrives, and installing my snowtire/rims for free. Thought that was a good deal and terrific service for a rare car. Can't wait! Mark

I just ordered a 5 door comfortline with dsg and esp for about $500 below msrp. Lease payments came out to be about $10 more a month than the website after fees and taxes. I may get it before x-mas if im lucky.

I got a comfortline wagon for my wife. Automatic with rear side airbags for 31,100 all in (I'm in Alberta so no PST) They threw in monster mats as well.

2010 Golf Wagon: Silver Highline Manual
After a fair amount of bargaining, I picked up the following last week:

2010 Silver Golf Wagon Highline, Manual Transmission, extra floor mats, and mudguards (installed). 0 down, no security, only first payment due on delivery. 48 months, 500/month (CDN) tax-in (QC) for 25000km/yr...the rate was 4.92%.

For some reason the residual percentage is lower on a highline (45% instead of 47% on the comfortline). This means I end up with more 'equity' in the car should I decide to sell, buy or trade it instead of just dropping it off at lease end. I suspect that this is being done to keep a big enough price gap between the trim lines so that they actually can lease some comfortlines!

well done, that is about $1000 off MSRP if my math is correct. Manual highlines are hard cars to find!

Cheers! I feel that I did well & I love the car! The discount is even a bit more if you account for the fact that this dealership tries to charge 339 as an admin fee. We were on our way in to order a black comfortline with sunroof and saw it on the lot...we hadn't even considered a silver highline until we saw it in the flesh... it looks sharp with the black leather...we had sorted the discount on the comfortline (less in demand) so they had a hard time saying no to applying the same discount (and a bit more) to a car they had on the lot ready to deliver.

Still working on solving the (lack of) bluetooth issue mind you...
