not worth it. The roads can't be any worse than up here. 225/45R17s are cheap and lots of choices. If you're really concerned, go with 16s instead.

I'm running them on my 03 Jetta with DRW 6 speed and really like them, but probably for different reasons than you're looking for.

Best thing for me is that the speedometer is right on accurate (odometer is 6% fast).

Wasn't any issue for me to get this size vs any other

well got my new wheels and tires, on the pictures seems to be a bit lift but after a few miles the car is lower. I really like how the car feels, much better and ride quality is amazing.
Wheels comes from a new Beetle 2014 17" no idea of the name and the tires are BG Turanza 215/55/17 with less than 500 miles. got everything for $400 usd.

wow, smokin' deal!

i also run the 215/55/17 for winter right now. plan to switch to 235/45/18 for summer.

same as Fix_Until_Broke - my speedo now reads accurate with no calibration for tire size change. i left it alone with VCDS. the speedo needle is a hair fast, but the cruise setting speedo is 100% accurate, conffirmed many times/many miles with both Garmin GPS, and smartphone GPS/mapping. however, my odometer is now 3% behind. i'm fine with that, i just compensate for that number when calculating fuel mileage.

don't ask me how the odometer is only 3% behind with a 5.2% larger diameter tire! again, this has been confirmed with separate GPS units many times.
