That's Vortex for you. After I posted this morning I was thinking that I do care what people think. I enjoy it when people appreciate me keeping an older car running and in good condition. And I don't want to be "another middle aged guy" in a bloated SUV or chrome covered pickup. Negative status, I guess.

Both those seem to be gaining in popularity, at least where I live.

all the crap on newer vehicles makes me care less and less about getting one....just more things to break and don't really need on a vehicle.

I'm in the same camp on that.

Give me simple that I can diagnose and fix and I'm happy. I don't have the wherewithal to spend at a dealership when the labor rate exceeds $100 per hour, at least not for very long...

I can honestly say my 97 A3 has been the best car I have ever owned. Purchased it at 3 years old and have driven it continuously since then. Now has 470,000 Km's on it and it still has original clutch, starter, injection pump, heater fan motor, wiper motor, and the motor has had no work beyond upgraded Bosio injector tips at 200 K Km's and routine timing belt replacements. This car has been driven in -40 C weather to +35 C. It has even started once when a circuit breaker had tripped in -35C after cold soaking for almost 12 hours. Running an Upsolute chip set for the last 16 years with no issues other than a little more smoke than the stock tune. Fuel consuption has averaged 5.1 to 5.3 l/ 100 Km since I have owned it. Great car, performs well and I enjoy driving it still. Only regret is I can't buy a new one the same.

My B4 is my daily driver however I do have a Nissan 240SX to drive if something horrible should arise.

I did have to get the steering rack replaced recently(300,000 on the original isn't bad) and after seeing how it drives after replacement it makes me wonder how long ago I should have gotten it done. Its so much tighter and not so sloppy!

My wife puts 135 miles a day on our B4. We also take long trips regularly.
The car keeps on pluggin! I do most of my work on the car on the week ends.

At present I'm restoring another B4 for the winter months.

Amen to both of you! Too many doodads! Give me crank windows :D A/C and a radio. I love my 98, simple easy to work on and low risk for theft.

My B4 doesn't, of course, but I have them in my wagon. I don't think I've seen another Jetta Wagon with them. Makes me smile to think I almost didn't buy the car because of crank windows and no sunroof. Didn't know what a benefit those would be.
