Pretty straight forward. Most importantly, are people planning to keep until warranty's up? or until you face a major failure?

Please post you're current mileage, as well and how many years you think it'll take to hit the number of miles before you get rid of it.

From the other thread:

Purchased June of 2010, @ 29k miles now. Will probably hold onto it until the warranty's up (nothing extended, so 60k), then trade it for the same thing in 2013/2014 guise. Maybe a Passat TDI if the family situation deems it necessary.

None any more. My heart couldn't take it.
15 months, 35,000 miles. I really like this car and would like to keep it a very long time.

When and if there are expensive failures, I'll evaluate my options. If you like a car, you tend to repair it. If you don't, you use any excuse to dump it.

2013 JSW - Third time's a charm
3yr/36,000 miles. I really thought the TDI would be 100k+. Instead, I'll have a really nice JSW for sale in about 2 years if anybody is looking!

I can't give an answer. For me right now, it all depends on VW's stance and handling of the HPFP failures. I'm nearing 60K so I'm reaching the line in the sand. While it seems that there is some grace for pumps failing out of warranty, there's certainly no guarantee. I'll prolly roll the dice and stick it out to see what happens, but I'm not opposed to letting it go if things don't reach a satisfactory resolution.

My original intent was to keep my TDI until I got tired of it which usually would be about 8 - 10 years or 175 -200k miles. But currently it's likely to be at the first sign of metal specks on top of my FF unless there's a positive outcome with respect to failing HPFPs or I'm still under the 5/60 warranty. Of course I can get "tired" of my TDI sooner if there's a "null" outcome to the HPFP issue.

I'll be at 3 years of owhership at the end of this month and I just inspected my FF at 51k+ miles for shiny specks as I leave on a 5k road trip this week.

So, your poll is not straight forward :D as I cannot reply to it.

16 months 26k. love the car but it is an abusive relationship. DFP and low pressure EGR replaced, towed for iced IC, botched IC TSB install, bad AC expansion valve, broken deck lid hanger, bad wheel bearing and axle on drivers side, won't stay aligned, off and on won't go into reverse. plus the diesel shutter and underwhelming RCD510 that finally got a reasonable MDF software update for the ipod. Also pretty fed up with the VWoA "we understand your car is making a sound but since there isn't anything broken we aren't going to try and fix it even though it's pretty obvious what the problem is" approach. car has spent +30 days in the shop over the last year but doesn't meet lemon criteria.

long story short; if it doesn't break for a while I might keep it or I'll trade it in while it's still worth something.

dweisel isn't diesel anymore!
Our original plan was to keep our two 09's for 12 to 15 years. We normally run our diesels for 250,000+ miles. Plan A did not work.:( Got rid of both 09's after they both had hpfp failures. I'm not sure how long we will keep the two 2011 gassers. I would love to own a couple of tdi's again, but not until the fuel system is changed so that one componet failure does not take out the entire fuel system.

hoping for about 200 -250 k one month old and 5 k on it so the miles will add up soon enough for me, it is a leap of faith but I am hopeful nothing big gets me out before my loan is paid up, fingers crossed.

I've got just over 25K on my jsw and 2500 on the golf. Plant to drive them until the wheels fall off or until I can get an amarok. If that time ever comes, I plan on giving my jsw to one of my girls.

I'll hold on until IC causes problems, metal in FF or 99K miles. I'm also watching DPF failures/clogging among the 09s to get a sense of when replacement necessary and cost. Love driving the car, so no lose of sleep on these items. Never planned on keeping over 100k, but wondered if could.

I bought my '11 JSW in Nov 2010 and have close to 18k on it. It is a fun little car to drive and it does almost everything I ask it to do. I voted for 100k since I can't predict life, or maintenance, changes that far out. However, if my JSW becomes uneconomical to maintain, then I'll part ways with it. Until then, I plan to keep her in tip-top shape and drive until the wheels fall off.

2011 JSW TDI DSG- current mileage-4,000 (3months old)
When I purchase I thought I would keep it for min of 5 years or 160k miles. OK, I was a dreamer.
Now- I would dump it today if I don't just get killed on loss. My plan is to drive it till the next thing happens- then call junk yard to haul it off my property. I have already had the "pleasure" of dealing with VWOA and "service"(giggle) dept. at dealership. Life is too short to volunteer for VW BS.
I purchased a new Honda this morning. Guess that says it all.

2010 JSW - traded it 12/31/11 for 2012 model
Purchased in October, 2009. 40K miles and though I love my car, getting 45 MPG avg. However, I am not a fan of VW service and am shopping for a replacement due to the HPFP issues. Looking at Mini Countryman, not sure diesel is reliable with emission controls. Too bad. :(

I tend to keep new cars I buy a very long time. It is more of an economics thing, so I really have to be motivated by the car.

To give you an idea, I have an '87 Cabriolet I bought brand new (now 25 years old) MK IV Jetta 11 years, and a MK IV Golf (6 years). Those are just the VWs.

Now that I've bought the Golf Wagon ('12 JSW) I fully intend to keep it for as long as it runs (at least 10 years, and maybe as much as 20).

Purchased 10/10 2011 JSW now with 25.6K miles and been in the shop waiting for parts to fix the HPFP. Waiting for clarification on how long warranty is, as it stands the 36K mark will be a trade in. If VW steps to plate longer...however I'm not optimistic. Before this happened I would have said till the body rots off. A failure that cost 1/3 of the price of the car to fix gives a sense of foreboding that I can't handle. I had to laugh on the VW website warranty selling page shows less of an estimated cost to replace the whole engine.

I'm running 5% bio for lubricity so we will see if that holds up.

Still under warranty but I'm going into the dealership shop to look at the filter when they take it off in 8k miles time. If I see flecks even after running constantly on bio I might consider changing at warranty.
If there was another small diesel engined car available in the US I would probably go for it,especially if it ran a rotary injection pump!

I wish Peugot would break into the American market. The French make excellent diesel engines

If it's as reliable as my 80's Mercedes', plan on keeping it a long time. If it starts killing me, it's gone.

Currently at 4 1/2 months, 4500 miles, no issues. Original plan was to keep it 7-8 years. Not sure now. As I said in the other thread, I'm intrigued with the new R and if it knocks my socks off on the test drive, I may let the TDI go. When I bought the TDI, it only marginally edged out the GTI as my priorities at the time were leaning on a longer commute than I have now.

I'm hoping for at least 200K but who knows what will happen. I was hoping for that with my "super-reliable" honda civic and it caused lots of problems by 160K. Enough that I sold it and got the TDI! So far so good. I purchased in April and have just over 13,000 miles on it now.
