How many CEL or other Error lights have you had?

2001 TDI Beetle
In the one year (actually, less than a year by a month or so) that I have owned my 2001 TDI Beetle, I have had 4 failures of something on my car that gave me the dreaded CEL or other Error lights come on the dash.

I purchased mine used, TDI 2001 Beetle, and in less than one year (one year in September) I have had 4.

So quarterly like taxes.

Less than one month from owning it, I immediately got my first High Temp Sensor error. Cost me $200 for repair. had it professionally done. Not too bad but owning it less than a month, that stunk.

Then I had the blinking glow plug light. That was a bad brake switch. Previous owner had it replaced under recall one year before so I could not get a recall again. Purchased the part myself (cheap like $15 or something) and replaced myself.

Then I had a bad glow plug CEL. Got one from Napa that works fine and cheaper than VWs. Like $15 or so. Replaced that myself and cleared that error fine. Just did that a month or two back.

Now I get an airbag light. That one still on until I can deal with that.

Sheesh!

Anyway, how have all you faired. I still love my little Beetle but getting too many CELs or other Error lights myself.

It appears the poll will allow votes to start at noon instead of right away and I do not see how to change that to right away so hopefully, anyone in the next 50 minutes will come back and vote when it starts at noon.

Thanks

This will be interesting

But I think a ratio would be better. For example, I've gone 5000 miles and have had 1 CEL so I would be at 5000 mpCEL.

Darn, anyone know how to EDIT a Poll? I forgot people with ZERO. Oops! I guess that did not even dawn on me and figured everyone would have gotten one by now knowing this is common.

If you know how to change a poll so I can add 0, let me know.

Two. One for a bad glow plug at 9,000 miles. The other continuous one is for "Insuffecient EGR Flow"

None on my '01 that wasn't self-induced.

I don't have a CEL light on. But I have the damn airbag light (driver side wiring needs work) and once in awhile the ABS light would come on (sensor on the front left but I know it is something else.)

Ummmm, you forgot to include zero as a choice?

Actually, mine is like -1/2

When my window tint was installed, the soapy water they used caused the "door ajar" light to come on and stay on for 3 days, but it cleared itself once it dried up; so, since the car had a "fault light" that cleared itself, I count that as a negative 1/2 CEL

I love my car

yes, I mentioned that earlier and was hoping someone would know how to "adjust" a poll but no one has let me know how and just going to edit the original message does not give me that option so I can't add that 0 option.

03... Faster than yours =]
I've had mine come on a few times... 2 were my own fault though... I had unplugged the MAF to see if it was good.. I was messing around with the Evry mod and made the light come on AND the glow plug light blink..

Had a bad speed sensor and coolant temp sensor(coolant migration).. Now I have an EGR flow code that continues to come back, valve is clean as well as egr passages, vaccuum line has vaccuum when it's supposed to... code keeps coming back.. Car runs fine so I think I'm just going to leave it and check once in a while for different codes..

Let's see
1. A/C stops working at 250 miles no CEL
2. Glow plug CEL at 21,000 miles #2 plug bad kind of soon you think?
3.Door sensor goes bad no cel really didn't need one 42,000 miles. Why so soon the car is only 3yrs old

4. I get a check engine CEL 48,000miles #3 glow plug gone bad.I guess it missed #2.
5.Front brake pads are worn CEL you know it does not show in the vag com. so you can't turn it off. Over 50% pad still there
50,250 miles
6.Check engine Cel again haven't got it hook to vag yet.53,096 miles
.
7. Went to have the engine CEl checked person not there. A/C stops working temp is 93
53,156 miles
8. Beginning to think VW makes junk.

Had a chev blazer once never this many problems. But it did have piss poor fuel mileage.

On my 99.5 TDI (133,000), I've had numerous (4 or 5) CELs for glow plugs. Checking the plugs a couple times, though I found that the resistance check was good, so I cleaned the tips good and reinstalled, cleared the light and the light stayed out. Appears as though the system is very sensitive when monitoring the plugs and even a slight difference in resistance will turn the light on. To me, it just one of those things that you have to put up with if you have a TDI. On my 2002 TDI (62,000) haven't had any lights...yet.

Zero since picking up the car new in 5/03. Now has 58K miles.

The battery light came on a couple of weeks ago along with some sporadic idling, but that seems to have gone away on it's own. Also had the bizaar turn-signal run-on clicking, but that also seems to have fixed itself.
