Picked mine up November 5th 2009. About 6000 miles with no issues. My parents have it right now because I'm in Korea, but I know that my dad would have told me if he's had a problem with it. The only thing he's mentioned is that he's loving the fuel economy...with his pretty heavy foot he's averaging 39 mpg from what he's told me.

Why do you need an alignment so soon? Lots of potholes?
Probably self induced driving mistakes (hit bump). Steering wheel slightly off centre with car pulling slightly to the right. I noticed the problem significantly worse after I got my first 8000km service done at the same dealer where I bought my car. I've rotated tires and checked pressure, car still pull to right.

I am not going to take her back to the dealer for alignment. Why? Not too confident about the service department. On my invoice, one job done was "drain fuel filter water seperator". I asked the service manager handling my service are you sure? He said yes. Then I asked him again, then he went in to grab a mechanic then came out to confirm there isn't water seperator on my model.

Then I asked him about the diesel fuel quality issue and ways to protect the high pressure fuel pump, what additive I can use, what fuel brand .... the guy gave me some unthinkable talks then start saying on other VW diesel model one can add urea into the fuel tank (CRAZY!!!)... I quickly cut short the conversation, paid and walked out.

Just 2 weeks ago when I returned there to asked about alignment issue. That same service department allowed me to wait for close to 10 minutes w/o anyone coming out to help. I kind of deliberately let myself wait there since I want to know how bad their service attitude can be. Finally, another service rep come out and gave me some unsatisfactory answers that prompted me to walk away again.

I am in BC, in Richmond, so you know where I got my VW from.... I've read somewhere in this forum from member saying to get your VW from the dealer then run as far away as possible. I have no problem with the sales department at that dealer, I wanted to believe their mechanics are all good, but the service window at that dealer, that window standing between me a VW owner and the mechanic who makes his living maintaining VW cars, left me with many question marks. I can't talk directly to the mechanic, and if the service window doesn't know a thing about the product they are selling, how can my car issues be properly served?

While I will not run away from every VW dealers, I will definately stay away from that dealer as much as I can.

Yes, I don't have a problem with my TDI yet... but I have had problems with VW service department.

I love my 2010 Golf.
I have a 2-door DSG, it had less than 10 miles on the odometer when I bought it about 5 months ago. It has over 12,000 miles on it now. The only real issue I've experienced was minor wind noise by the drivers side door. Fortunately, it resolved itself without intervention sometime within the past 3 months.

I am mildly concerned that since receiving its first service the engine sounds deeper and rougher, but I haven't noticed anything beyond that. I've only had one full tank through since service and got around 41mpg. My average is 42, best tank was around 46 and worst around 40. I don't baby the car except when it's still warming up.
Something else that concerned me about bringing it in for service was that the guy told me that in his experience these engines should have their oil changed every 5000 miles to keep them running well. Things like that really don't inspire confidence.

3 months and 4K miles on a 2010 Jetta Cup with every option but Nav. DSG, Sunroof, and everything else have performed flawlessly thus far!

I love this car.

2010 Golf 6MT, Platinum Gray, Sunroof, RNS-510 - Purchased 7 May - current miles = 4700+

In for it's first of many oil changes to come (verified that the dealer used the proper 507 rated oil from Castrol)

-Rear washer peeing uncommanded - check valve on order as per the VW TSB
-Broken tab/tit on the rear hatch trim that holds the shelf cord - replaced the trim
-doors have excessive wind noise - waiting on the P/N for the "thicker" seals

Even with the 3 things above...I don't really consider any of them a problem/issue...I'm at fault for the broken tab/tit and the rear washer is really just an OCD thing for me...the wind noise is likely the only thing that I'm remotely "worried" about...and in truth...I'm not worried...just want to quiet it down if it can be done. I've had zero CEL's or any of these other hesitation issues that I've been reading about.

No complaints here yet ... a few quirky design feature issues, but it's running just fine! (looking for wood to knock on) :)

WARNING! Instant red flags...double-check your receipt and see what oil was specified.

Then go to the dealer, make them bring out the actual mechanic who serviced your car and make sure he actually used the right oil.

The "5000 miles" statement means they're treating your car like a gasser, and you have to hope they didn't put in the wrong oil (or older 505.01 oil meant for PDs).

I posted earlier in this thread, joining those who have had no problems yet on our new, low mileage JSW TDI. I should have added something else -- this car is FUN to drive! Now that we're out of the engine break-in period, we're beginning to have a taste of modest fun behind the wheel and this car has a wonderful balance of strong power and handling.

Car & Driver said that "if your're always in a hurry, this car's throttle response will be your aggravation-come-true". It's a lie -- ours has power in abundance, the throttle "tip-in" is perfect, there's very little turbo lag and when we move up through those gears, it brings grins all 'round.

I asked the guy before if they were aware of the TDI specific oil requirement and he said "of course". Doesn't mean they used the right one though, I guess I will give them a call. I've driven nearly 1000 miles since the change, assuming they did use the wrong oil what are the consequences?

Not much if you rectify it by getting the right stuff in there right away.

2500 miles and no problems. Good fuel mileage, good power - nice car.

No problems that make me go back to the dealer.... However, there are these little niggling issues. My dashboard internal frame was broken during build - don't think I want them to tear out the dash to replace it, but I wish it wasn't broken. There are screws in the engine compartment that weren't screwed all the way in. Not confidence inspiring.

I guess I can't count the hill crest hesitation and 800 rpm engine kill as problems since as far as I can determine that's the way VW intended the car to behave. Still, I wish they'd fix them.

12,700 miles. 1 oil drip and a stuck storage compartment lid. Very nice car otherwise.

Update: 11/3/2011, 42,290 miles, two driver side door locks replaced under warranty @ 35k.

2010 Golf TDI!
9600 miles, 4 door golf tdi. Love this car, my favorite car ever, solid ride, nice features and interior, and fun to drive. You see it in a parking lot and think, "that's a small car next to all the suvs" but it drives better than any of them. A big car feel. Just had the 10,000 mile service done yesterday. Corrected the tpms computer problem and new oil. I had to direct the service adviser to the correct 507 oil. It helped that my sales lady highlighted all over my owners manual including the 507 requirement. I am pretty sure the mechanic new about the right oil but I did peer into the service bay to make sure they used it, saw the gold Gastrol bottle. While trying to convince me the oil was not that special the adviser said I could buy it anywhere. I called the Gastrol hotline and was told it is proprietary with VW and only available from the dealer. (Or on-line of course). I did buy a bottle from them to have, and confirmed the code number on my oil change receipt matched the bottle I bought and had in my hands. Great car!

I do not have, nor intend to get a 2010. Off topic then, I do have a 03 and 09. Both had NO issues.

The nexus here : (most cars) VW has an (official but) unofficial 1 year 12,000 miles "new car warranty". (concurrent in the main warranty ( 3 year/36,000 miles). There are of course other warranties defined and sometimes extended, which are listed in VW warranty documents.

EVERYONE needs to make use of it, even if they don't have any issues. Since VW offers 3 maintenance intevals (included in the price) @ 10 k ,20 k. 30 k, those are also convenient times to get whatever other issues one might have.

I also suspect this offer is one way VW corporate seriously monitors its program of constant improvement to at least the 3 year and or 36,000 miles mark. (as meager as that might be)

congrats GEEKTOAD, i got mine 2 1/2 weeks ago. about 1700 miles i think so far and all good. love the car.
but i do have few little things that i will go see dealer for: car pulls to the right just a bit, so ill have them check alignment, and i got the rear wiper dribble, but there's a fix out there for it now, so on Vwvortex people are saying its 1 hr at the dealer to fix. but those are little things that every new car has, i would just call them imperfections
love this car.
