How many 2-door Golf TDIs are out there

I found mine across town, about 20 miles away... on a local VW forum..

sometimes you get lucky. Had it less than 40k miles, have had lots of fun with it..

its now getting a replacement motor out of a 2002 automatic Jetta because of a freak of nature wrist pin retainer failure... but there's no way I would give up on it. Its too good of a car. and I am not finished with it yet. heh.

Hey Growler. My son only wanted a 2 door red 99.5 Golf. We were lucky to find on in your home town. 5spd, manual windows, power locks etc... The engine had rod and piston damage like so many of them. Rebuilt it, 11mm pump, pp520, straight pipe exhaust....
It has been running great for 30k miles now. He loves it

When I was looking to replace my wrecked 2d Golf GL, I found a nice one down near San Diego at a dealer. It was an '03, one owner, 77k, clean and stock. I was real close to hopping a plane and picking it up. The only hitch was they were asking $11.5k and wouldn't budge. Yes, they are hard to find. That's why I have a Jetta now but there are SO many of them, it'll always bug me a bit. My rational is the Jetta's GLS trim level, leather, etc. helps offset the loss of my Golf.

you should strive for an 02-03. There are a lot of small parts that were revised over time and the later MKIV's are much nicer IMO.

Don't the '03 Golfs have the PD engine? I want to avoid them because of what I've read about the cam issues.

nope, the 2003 was the last year for the ALH motor. PDs showed up in 2004.

You're obsessing a bit there. If it's in the US it's all but certain to be US spec.

Do a Carfax if you're that concerned.

I have a 1999.5 Red 2dr. GL with a black interior and a 5spd. I've owned the car for right at one year and put 28K miles on it. It had certainly been neglected when I purchased it, but the price reflected that. I replaced a bunch of broken little plastic interior parts, had the timing belt done, replaced the DMF, replaced one of the after cooler pipes and the MAF sensor... now the front main seal is leaking. With a bit over 181K on the car I'm OK with that.

I really wanted a white 2dr but simply could not find one, I would have happily had it shipped across the US if I had located one. The above car is identical to mine except for the exterior color.

I can vouch for 3 2dr TDI 5 spd golfs at the end of 03, 2 silver ones in Boston(Quirk), and a black one in CT(riverbank). I ended up with the black one, RIP 3/3/07. 55mpg was easy with that car, and I got into the low 60's many times on flat roads with criuse, truly unbelievable. I can't say the same for my Jetta, which I average 45-47.

I ran across a silver 2 door Golf with Manual Trans yesterday that was somewhere in PA I believe. Don't recall all the particulars but think it had around 120K miles on it and was a 2003 model year.

PM me if you need help finding it. I probably saw it on CL but not sure.

I would prefer a 2 door as well but with two kids it would be a pain!

I currently own 3 mk4 and they are all Silver. Don't ask me why, it just happened like that. All of them are made in Germany for the overall result that seems to be of higher quality.

'00 Golf GL TDI ASZ 2doors, 505 000km
'05 Jetta GLS TDI BEW Wagon, 305 000km

I own my 2doors Golf since nearly 50 000km and pretty much everything that can wear was overdue. Sad thing the engine blew up at 463 000km due to a new actuator with an intercooler full of oil.

The entire car was fixed or swaped with parts from other Golfs and now the car drives better than a new one, appart from the suspension being too stiff (or road not being hole-less).

We found our 2 door golf (silver 5spd) about 25 miles away. It was listed on VWVORTEX and I caught the listing about 15 min in to it being posted. Luck is all it was. Snagged it up for 3500, but it needed about 2.3k worth of work. Some of that were upgrades too (T4 nozzles skidplate). I really love the car. It is not nearly as quick as my beetle right now, but I still love driving it.

I also found a black 2 door in NJ as well for 3k. I just did not have the money for another project though...

My German built 2000 is a 2dr, and I had never seen another in Calgary or the surrounding area, until I saw another one in the visitors parking lot at work this past week, that was the same color as mine! (Mine was better looking though) - and here she is!
