Not for sale but the OP wanted 2 door golf TDI and this section of forum is for sale/WANTED so I do not see the problem.

That's what's funny.....the OP didn't say he wanted to buy anything, either. He/she just asked how many 2-door Golf TDI's are out there. I guess we could go and look at VW's sales numbers for 1999-2002 and see how many were sold, and subtract a wee bit for some that have met their demises already.

Does anyone know where I can find production numbers for the 2 door golfs from 2000 to 2003?

Not trying to hijack yhe thread, just curious about production numbers, also...

How many Jetta wagon TDI's for 2002/2003 were imported to the USA? How many automatics/ How many 5 speeds?

Yes, I (the OP) am wanting a two-door Golf, me thinks. I've yet to look at or test drive one. Thanks for the lead about Steve Glover's cars for sale. Texas is a long way to go to do a test drive. I'll test drive a local one before venturing off to buy one at that distance.

Golfs in general are pretty rare compared to Jettas in this country, and 2-door Golfs even moreso. Add in the diesel option, and they are very rare indeed!

4-door Golfs, in addition to having more doors, were more gussied up, so I think a lot of people either went for them OR went for a lesser-trimmed Jetta GL, which was appointed much like the 2-door Golf but had 4 doors and was not much more money.

Buddy you go test drive 4 door GOLF they are the same and buy 2 door 40000000 miles away because with your plan you will not be driving one soon.

If you really want a two door Golf with the diesel, and a good one, I suggest you REALLY consider Steve's *rare* white Golf as a candidate. Even though he is a bit away from you in Va, it is worth the trip. ;)

Former 2003 Golf GL 2 Dr, 5spd, ESP, CW, PP520s, DC Stg3 soon!
The 2 door is a rare configuration. I traveled to Indiana (from Seattle) to find a very rare combo - 2003.5 (updated cupholders), ESP and CW pkg, and cruise and power windows. The first and last year to get the power windows and cruise was 2003, because in 2004 there were no more 2 door TDIs.

Good luck in finding one if that's what you want. They are pretty cool! I did a national search on autotrader every day for a year and a half, and finally found the configuration I wanted.

Shame you could never get a 4-door GL trim Golf.... I am working on collecting the pieces to make mine that way, though. Most Jetta parts work, but I have heard the rear door panels are slightly different. Pretty sure the CCM allows for a 5-door non-power window coding.

Now if I could just get the bits to rid it of the power locks and anti-theft I'd be set! :D

There was 4 door GL TDI Golf in 2003.

And it had power windows. ;) Same as my 2000 GLS. Only difference between GL and GLS 4-door Golf in 2003 was the GLS had standard aluminum wheels, armrest, and slightly different seat coverings. Probably a couple other minor differences too, but those were the "big" ones.

I about laughed myself stupid when VW announced they were making power windows standard on every model they sell here. Seems like they should have figured out how to make window regulators better if they were gonna do that.

I used to own one ('01), actually I still do (in storage). Too bad it got squeeze-boxed in a 7 car pile-up. All this talk about the rarity of the 2 door has me lamenting again.

I have had problems with all 4 of my window regulators. The fronts were both upgraded, once before 7 years, once on my own nickel sometime in the 8th year. And the little double roll pin has popped out of both rear doors, separating the glass from the regulator -- 2 or 3 times each side.

I would still buy a VW with power windows. :) I like having all 4 windows at least partway down in the summertime; cracking the rears makes for less buffeting inside the car. And trying to work crank windows back there is a nuisance. And as much as I hate these little niggling hardware/trim issues, I still love my Dub.

On my GL trim Golf, it used to confuse the heck out of passengers when they realized you actually had to ROLL the window up w/that dinosaur crank thingy...

Kind of like kids who are perplexed by the rotary phones you can see in the Smithsonian...

You know you're getting old when you can remember the 'schick-tick-tick' of a rotary phone, and kids don't know how to use one.

I also remember doing those "be the 9th caller and win the prize" thing with radio call-ins, before having redial...

I would never buy car without power windows anymore no matter what kind of problems I encounter with power ones. I love opening moonroof too and having my ass on fire so you could give me GL trim for free I would not take it.

I just acquired a prime 01 Golf GL 2-door and within minutes of listing it on my website, "poof", a local prospective costomer called, showed up minutes later, took it for a test drive, left to go talk to wife, called back soon thereafter and committed at the full asking price. All this with the vehicle not being ready FS and needing detail along with the usual general servicing regiment we are famous for. ;) Later!

I own a pearl green 2001 Golf TDI GL 5 speed with power sun roof, power locks and manual windows.
I am going to sell it after I pick up my 2010 Golf Wagon TDI tomorrow.
Those are the good news.
The bad news is I live in Vancouver, BC (lots of 2 door Golfs here by the way) and the Turbo is not fully operational.
The car still runs fine and gets the same gas mileage, but the dealership and VW Canada finally decided (after testing every possible part) that there is a short in the wiring harness that they couldn't find it before I pulled the plug on more repairs.
Yes, I have all the service records since becoming the second owner and am more than happy to pass them along with any information you would want or need.

I've got a 2door black TDI, year 2000. It has a really nice seat pattern that looks like something Keith Harring would have designed. 118,000 miles... I've had it since 51,000.

I have a silver 2dr GL that I rescued from a clueless owner that had no local service worth mentioning. He lived in a tiny town in the southwest corner of Nebraska. I flew out a month ago to Denver, and drove it back. It is in need of much more TLC than I had figured, but that's what happens when you pay 1/5 the cost of a new car. It's parked right now, awaiting the arrival of new cam, lifters, injectors & new nozzles, timing belt stuff, brake stuff, etc. etc.

Yeah, they're not easy to find. There was one available in CT, but the owner was a dufus on vortex that wouldn't even return messages. I suppose sending a message in correct english turned him off.

For MKIV's, it just doesn't get any better looking than a 2dr Golf IMO. The look is just right, and looks much better than the MKV golf's too! If you really want a clean 2dr, you should strive for an 02-03. There are a lot of small parts that were revised over time and the later MKIV's are much nicer IMO. Of course, if you find a 50k mile y2k Golf for a decent deal go for it, but I'd hold out for an 03. Obviously, you have to be prepared to fly to get it though. I flew from FL to MD to buy mine.
