How long will a VNT15 last at 22psi?

I suspect not long. However I'm no authority. I believe they really don't like much more than 18psi. If I go from no throttle to the floor mine will spike to 20 but instantly goes back to 18 as per requested when I got my tune. Been running it that way for almost a year now.

Well I have 10 yr old 240 Kmi on the stock "15". I have had spikes to 32 PSI often.

Still a strong car. And also a 100% TDIfest participant...

How long will it take you to say "22psi boom"

You will say 22psi, but the turbo will say the BOOM
hehe

Got a question that's been bugging me for a while and thought I'd chime in.

Does it also matter on engine capacity too? I know it's irrelavant for 99% of people on the site, but someone was running 1.65 bar on a 1422cc 3 cylinder TDi with what I thought was a GT1749VA, but apparently he was doing it using a PD115 turbo, which I think is a GT1749V  I'm pretty sure VNT15 + 1.9 TDI + 1.65 bar = kaboom :D

Is flow rate capability of a compressor inversely proportional to engine size or am I thinking wrong?

Thanks,
Ash :)

I ran 19 PSI on my Golf at the track, it regularly spiked to 24-26 PSI. Couldn't kill it.

I've heard that Viagra pills in Diesel helps with the spikes.... :p :p :p

I believe that, but Peter I not sure if others do that, it will yield that same results!

You're right, it's in no way a prediction. I have yet to blow a turbo. Guess that's the benefit of driving like an old guy. ;)

RC3 runs around 18.5 psi sustained, right? Never heard of anyone blowing up a VNT-15 shortly after getting tuned, lots of people running that.

I need to ask Charlie for more boost, lol.

A separate question is, at what boost pressure does a VNT-15's compressor efficiency fall off a cliff? i.e. turning more energy into heat vs. pressure.

My a$$...that car is was fast and that little turbo sure did work well...

I also run the 15 in my wifes beetle with about 20 PSI regularly and i am sure it spikes a bit on tip in as well. That 15 has really good response time, just lacks the top end flow.

Oliver that's correct "is" and "was" fast...;) Peter has good luck when he pushes stuff

Clearly, it will last as long as it lasts... I would expect that to be not as long as one running 13.7 psi.

made 20 000km with used vnt15 never see over 25psi by 3 sec because my boost limit map put in limp mode , but always made him scream like demon (daily range 17 ~24.5 psi )
melted hexaust turbine after 20k km while a badly emotional ride ( floored like ,,,,) to be safe while surexploiting turbo maybe is , a shutoff manual valve on oil feed et voila au cas ou ahaha

A: that run on sentence of grammatical nightmares!
B: Ahh.... what?
C: leave it to these newbs to revive a 10 year old thread like this!
D: You're EGTs must have been stupid high to melt it like that.
I expected better from canada.

For a good bit of reference. I've been running my GT1749 (stock ALH/ASV turbo) in the UK at 21psi for the last 18 months without any issues. It holds 1.45bar of boost on the gauge (and in the logs) from around 1800rpm to 3500rpm.

Car gets abused and has covered over 70k in this configuration, it's finally showing some problems with an exhaust leak, but otherwise the VNT is still free and it is not consuming any oil.

It is important to note the turbo was in fantastic condition beforehand (however it was used with 180k miles on it iirc)

Depends on how your tuning is setup. I have been running 23 on my bv39 for like 10k miles and it's fine but I tuned it to go back to stock boost after 4200 rpm. High rpm+high boost= overspeeding the turbo.
