Repairs aren't mainentance, so that stuff (oil changes, tires, brakes, suspension bushings, t-belts, bulbs, battery, etc.) aren't included even though they happen.

Y2K Golf, bought new in 10-99, 237k miles (260k to go).

Usual repairs:
1) Alternator
2) MAF
3) outside mirror glass due to corrosion (aluminum reflective coating died)
4) windshield
5) radiator fans (happens so often, they're not unusual to die on you)
6) front window glass hangers (warranty item)

Unusual repairs:
1) Wheel bearing (due to collision and resulting impact damage)
2) front right window (idiot thief got away with gym bag w/ old t-shirt and used shorts, comb. lock w/o combination.)
3) crap spare tire well cover replaced with composite sandwich (fiberglass-ceramic foam) that deflects about 1" with a 270 lb load in the middle when supported on each side.

Unusual not to have done:
1) front brakes for the first time in the near future (they just barely squeaked by the inspection last December)
2) struts & shocks still work (want to replace, also in the near future)
3) DMF is still hanging in there (german engineering. uh-huh.)

2001 Jetta

Bought in Feb 2009, 180k miles, only a few hundred by me.

Working on fixing everything so my non-mechanically minded daughter can use it.

PEC repairs completed
1) half shafts swapped out for other used units with swapped CV joints (power-on shimmy disappeared as a result)
2) new dog bone (not absolutely necessary, but transaxle lube leaked all over it)
3) replaced transaxle lube with Redline MTL (original was probably low - drain plug was leaking)
4) left rear parking brake cable replaced
5) right ball joint replaced

Still PEC, but on the list:
1) left rear window glass has parted company with the lift mechanism
2) armrest lid completely separated from armrest.
3) not sure if DMF will hold together, do clutch? don't do clutch? hmmm...
4) front brakes have a wicked shimmy on braking
5) certain strategic gaskets will be replaced to prevent inconvenient work later
6) radiator fans need help (large one not working)
7) a/c recharge (need? don't need?)
8) tires will become an issue soon
9) fender rust issue
10) generally, the car is in good shape, but there's a lot of fasteners that need cosmoline or similar anti-rust help.

I bought mine new in Aug 02. Now at 158,000 miles. I have replaced the following:

15 oil changes (did the first @ 1000 miles for break in) 16th due in 2000 miles.
Alt pulley
A/C compressor - failed clutch (next time I will just replace the clutch)
G60 / VR6 clutch set up
2 timing belt changes
3rd set of tires
Rear brake pads and rotors
Too many head light bulbs to count before disabling DRL's
Nozzles - first to .205's, now to .216's
IP complete reseal - leaking shaft seal and shut off o-ring problem

2 retunes with my Q-loader
Starter - just because of noise from clutch dust
I am only on my 3rd fuel filter :eek::eek:
Replaced cabin filter once
8th air filter
Rear struts
Cleaned intake once or twice, I have done so many for other people I lost track.
The original VNT15 was replaced under warranty @ 12,000 miles because the driver of the car for the 1st year was the wife, and it just would not warm up idling in the winter  and the vanes stuck.
Installed TDI heater
New (salvage) arm rest assy complete because it was cheaper than just the lid new from VW
Guages - EGT and Boost
Boost valve.
2.5 " DP and 3 " strait pipe
