How is Mobil diesel fuel?

Mobil's website sucks. No product data. No mention of Diesel+, although this is the only thing I see at the service stations.

Maybe Mobil DOES sell low sulfur diesel at selected locations. Their consumer diesel web site implies this.

I live near Boston and go to Burke for B20 whenever I can. There are Mobil stations with diesel all over this area, but I think most of them just carry the standard 40 cetane, high sulfur stuff. HOWEVER, the Mobil site shows two stations in MA (E. Boston and Braintree) that carry low sulfur #2 diesel. I checked the site and saw 2 LS locations in CT, 2 in NJ, and a bunch in NY.

Check for yourself at http://www.mobil.com/mobil_consumer_diesel/index.html

Put in your state and then search under product on the page that pops up. Has anyone verified that this really is low sulfur premium diesel at any of these locations? --Dan

I have filled up with "Diesel+" a couple times, and didn't think much of it until I got myself a tank full of B20 (at Burke oil). I didn't necessarily buy into all the testimonials, but my scinicism was unjustified. That stuff is WAY better: you can hear it, feel it and smell it. There's no going back & my Speedpass is soon to lose its spot on my keychain.

Burke is a bit of a pain to get to from the North since they've completely mangled the Rt.1 on-ramp from 93south, but I'll fill up fuel jugs to keep the trips and $2 toll fees down.

Thanks to all those who kept beating the B20 drum. I was reluctant, but now grateful.

Hi, I didn't see this point in the discussion. I have had a recent problem with water in the tank from a Mobil station. I learned a couple of things. (See original post under TDI 101.)

1) Mobil in Virginia is actually Phillips 66, due to some marketing agreement, said the fuel supplier for this particular Madison County Mobil station.
2) The fuel supplier does not MAINTAIN these particular tanks, and only supplies diesel.

I've alot to learn about diesel, but I have learned that water from poorly maintained tanks is a MAJOR concern.

I'm investigating an additional filter or a portable "Baja Fuel Filter" as a test or in an 'emergency' pitstop while on vacation away from my normal fuel-ups. Does anyone have experience with this?

P.s. Still a happy TDI owner.

Concerns about the quality of various diesel sources is a common sentiment here. The most oft-prescribed remedy is to choose a service station or truck stop that does a high volume of diesel sales. Then you know it's fresh.

Hey Bigglesworth,

You can get to Burke from Rt 99 in Everett instead and avoid the $2 Tobin Bridge toll.

Stickgirl, Did you have your first 5000 mile service yet? Was this done by the stealer? If you did, was any water drained from the oil water separator in the fuel filter?
Also, could you tell us more details about the Mobil station that sold you the offending fuel? Did you buy >10 gallons from them?
