How Fast?

I've always wondered what the top speed is on a Touareg TDI. I never opened mine up but have had it a little over a 100 mph leaving a turd that was tailgating me. I know they have speed limiters but wonder what they are set at. Anyone know?

Possibly 130 mph, but it could possibly be the 155 mph one. Some have been 120, too. It will be within the speed range of the factory tires. H rated tires are 130.

Years back, the EU imposed one for 250 kph (about 155 mph) because so many cars were getting so fast.... the territory north of triple digits was no longer just the domain of sports coupes and big sedans.

The T'reg may be lower due to the fact that it is technically classified as a truck or MPV or whatever.

I know the bigger Audi sedans have no problem using most of their 160 mph speedometer.

There is a video on YouTube of a Jetta Hybrid driving on the autobahn at over 130mph. One would think the Touareg was graced with a higher limiter than that.

On a Stage 2 Malone Tune with NO Deletes, I maxed out at 133mph (on a closed track of course ) There's still a speed limiter in place even with the tune and had plenty of revs left, but I have H-rated tires and seldom need to go above triple digit speeds so I'm ok with it. Bummer that even with a tune, I was hoping there was no speed limiter. The car felt fine at the speed and was eerily quiet and stable.

Driving triple digits in the Imperialist System, I got a warning about the front crash sensors not being able to respond well, but I ignored it and kept going. I think I got up to about 115. In Nevada on a state road that may or may not have had a speed limit. . . . .

I've never "tried" to find the limit, but according to my controller, it has more in it than I typically need to tap into when driving something this size....
According to the historical data, I've knocked on the door of 200kph (can't recall what I was up to when I did so, but clearly I was being a hooligan)

Our Treg stops accelerating at 130 mph. I reached the [governed] top speed once; but I’m pretty sure the Cayenne beside me had the same speed limitations

Check your tires. The speed limiter is set so that the tires won't explode. H-rated tires top out at 130 mph. That's why the speed limiter is set there.

I’m not interested in going any faster on the highway. However, I could pay a few hundred more for the Z-rated rubber and really swing for the fences - if it weren’t for the damn governor!

I can't find my calculator.... does your alleged limiter you hit convert to what I'm showing?
How do you know you hit a "limiter"?
And even if you did hit one, how do you know it was a "speed limiter"?

So does stuff like EGT limiter and power reduction due to various other things which if left unchecked might allow a driver to damage stuff....
In the absence of any data, I would suspect that his EGTs were through the roof for an extended period of time and the ECU had already started to de-rate the output, so it finally reached a point where the reduced grunt was no longer able to increase the velocity of this pig any further.

I can hit the stock 830degC EGT limit in my bone stock unit just beating on it, just at around 100-110mph if I recall correctly, and the ECU starts throttling output in order to control my hooliganism..... and I'm guessing that TX is probably warmer than my hood, so standing on the go pedal for 30s or more trying to top out will quite easily heat things up.

Maybe the user should log some things to identify what is actually "limiting" him.

One other thing to take into consideration is the powerband..... since the user was "racing", I will safely assume that he was in sport mode or tip or whatever and holding 7th gear.... as such, with the gear ratios on a TDI Touareg, this would put him right near the 4k RPM mark (just shy, 3970rpm if we want to get specific).... this is way outside the stock powerband and you don't have any grunt up there... so pushing 5k lbs and battling physics becomes a little challenging at that stage.

Yeah, and it's also because it's programmed in. Welcome to 1995. Well, earlier than that, but my only first person experience with VAG product and the speed limiter is with a '95 ABA Golf, which was 120 mph. '93 F150 had one too, but it buried the speedo before it kicked in. I think it is around 105.

All modern cars have them. Normal. Why I can outrun the teeny-peeny brigade on the highway with their giant monster trucks. Nothing like a clapped out 23 year old Golf pulling away from a $60k F150 on the highway, LOL.
