How are TDI's doing long term after the buyback?

Read the self study guide on the VAG CR engines (as it applied to the new-for-2009 CBEA). It has lots of good information and explains the differences. It involves extra fueling and airflow control via the intake and exhaust throttles, and some other temperature sensing strategies. Of course, this all more or less is a moot point post-Dieselgate, LOL.

I have looked for info on the TDI regen frequencies but there isn't much info out there that I have seen. Is it 210 miles on the dot, every time? Do you have a way to track regens? I don't (yet) but will be. Currently the only metric I really have is to listen for the fan to be running on high speed which is very difficult to do with my motly highway driving. Watching the instant mpg is an option but not always accurate either.
Generally speaking, engines are programmed to run an active regen every so many engine hrs, regardless of soot load, as a preventative measure. Engine hours is the prevailing metric from what I have seen because driving habits vary so much you could put 210 miles on in 3 hrs (70mph avg) or 11 hrs (20mph avg, think city driving).
I watch my regens using VAGDPF app and a OBDII dongle with my android phone. Looks like this:

I purchased a TDI w/ 36k about two years ago. Its running fine at 70k. I plan on keeping the car well into 2-300k. Anyone having good experiences with theirs?
Yes sir we have 3 an the scandal an paybacks far exceeded what we paid for them! 2009-238k,2010-277k,2012-254k
All fine!

The marginal heating of my '11 TDI is the one thing I don't miss about that car. Took a while to adjust to the 30 mpg of my current gasser Golf, but the heat comes on so much quicker and it never blows lukewarm just from idling in traffic or drive thru in frigid weather.
Your aux element not working? My 10&12 both throw heat till motor is hot!

My 2014 Jetta started having DPF/NOx problems just after the warranties ran out.... attempted regen many times, more recently I even used Ross-Tech's vag-com and VCDS to try to force regeneration without success.

Most recent scan:

011174 - NOx Emissions Exceeded P2BA6 - 000 - SCR Catalyst Malfunction - MIL ON
006744 - NOx Catalyst P1A58 - 000 - Regeneration Required
006481 - Radiator Fan 2 (V177) P1951 - 000 - Movement Restricted / Jammed

So the problem first began within a few months of purchasing this 2014 Jetta in Feb 2022. The DPF light came on during one of many trips between San Diego and Phoenix. I had no idea what it was at the time, so pulled over to do some research. I wasn't able to clear it that trip, but watched many YT vids and talked to a mechanic at a Phoenix VW dealership and eventually managed to take care of it. That happened a few more times over the next months, but when the Jetta hit about 122,000 miles, just past the 120k warranty limit, the DPF light just stayed on, or went out but came back on. Then the engine light came on too. I was unable to address the situation the same way I had before, just driving in sport mode keeping rpms around 2000-2500.

Back in San Diego, I asked around for someone to pull codes and was able to borrow a VAG-COM cable. The scan showed pretty much the same results I get today (below). The standing regen was unsuccessful. All attempts at a driving forced regen have also been unsuccessful. I thought I had it lat one point last week and then had to return the borrowed cable.

I got the Ross-Tech cable yesterday and tried the forced regen while driving again last night. After over an hour, both dash lights went out and they stayed out longer than an hour for the entire return trip. I was so relieved and proud of myself. However, both the DPF and engine lights came back on when I started the car up again this morning and I am just disappointed and frustrated all over again.

As I was attempting the regen last night, my soot level increased from something like 6 to just over 15 over the entire 2.5 hour drive. They never decreased and I had read that you know when the regen is finished when that soot number gets close to 0. Is that right? (How DO you know when regen is complete???) I read somewhere else that the regen cannot run unless soot levels are over 40, and mine has never come close to that so I'm confused about that.

I was talking to someone at a nearby VW dealership about it yesterday and they again made it sound like it shouldn't be difficult. They told me it would be $380 plus labor, probably 2 hours, more than it was in Phoenix. I bought the cable and converter for about $250 total including 2-day delivery and felt confident that I could do it myself so I tried. So when the lights were on again this morning, I brought her in hoping to just talk with someone and get some guidance but they weren't willing to entertain me. They wouldn't even let me talk to a service manager.

A scheduler said I could leave my car and they'd probably get to it by Tuesday or Wednesday but I'm supposed to be back in Phoenix ar
ound that time and in CO the following week. Besides, that's just to check it out and who knows how long it would take from there. The scheduler seemed to know about DPF issues and said it should be fine for the trip. He told me to just be sure I fill it up with biodiesel as lower quality diesel might be the problem. I'm like how could that be when I fill up at different places between San Diego and Phoenix all the time? I asked how to identify biodiesel and they sent me to 7-11, which has the same damn diesel #2 every other station with diesel has, but for $6.66 a gallon v. the $6.09 at the cheaper gas station in the area.

The scan I ran this morning looks pretty much like the scans from last week. Please help me figure out what I'm missing! Is there something else I need to address first? Here is today's scan:

The DPF regen won't happen if the fans are messed up, that is correct. Not sure on the deNOx regen, but it stands to reason that would be the case as well.
