I'm fairly sure I'm gone July 30. But, if you hold a GTG, and I am not in Dallas, I'd love to come.

I'm headed to PA for two weeks on the 12th. So, I'm out that day, too. :(

Crazy summer schedules. *sigh* :)

As far as I know, Oct. 8 is good for me. Not planning to be up north, no big races that I know of, nothing planned.....hope I can keep that date open as priority.

Need a Houston shop - Skid Plate, Rear Sway Bar Installs

I'm lazy so I would like to take these to a shop and have them done.
The skid plate is actually installed, but not torqued to spec and have to be adjusted a little.

Also need the rear sway bar installed. I don't have ramps, and they need to be torqued at curb weight position.

Can someone recommend a shop to do this for me? I'm in the Heights so pretty much anywhere in Houston within 25 miles from downtown is acceptable.

Texas: Big, hot and...... humid (in Lake Jackson)

Your car will not pass inspection with an airbag light on (safety issue).

thats lame VW's almost have the air bag light on as a factory option.

Thanks
Only time I got an airbag light on mine was when I ran with the airbag light in the center console disconnected. I missed that during my stereo install. Oops.

That's not true.

MKIV's have airbag under seat connections that are prone to failure from the slightest damage. When I changed the seats in my old Golf, I bought new connectors and that took care of the occasional air bag light I was getting.

Interesting about the airbag light as my bug has passed inspection for the last three years with an airbag light on. In fact, here is the required item list:

1. Horn
2. Windshield Wipers
3. Mirror
4. Steering
5. Seat Belts
6. Brakes (system) (Parking - beginning with 1960 models)
7. Tires
8. Wheel Assembly
9. Exhaust System
10. Exhaust Emission System (beginning with 1968 models)
11. Beam Indicator (beginning with 1948 models)
12. Tail Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
13. Stop Lamps (2); (1) if 1959 model or earlier
14. License Plate Lamp (1)
15. Rear Red Reflectors (2)
16. Turn Signal Lamps (beginning with 1960 models)
17. Head Lamps (2)
18. Motor, Serial, or Vehicle Identification Number
19. 1988 & newer - inspect for window tinting or coating
20. Gas caps on vehicles 2-24 model years old.

Nice list!

Back in 2008? or so, when I had my Golf and put in a set of Recaro front seats, I did not have the proper connector for the airbag light. The inspector would not pass it during the annual and I had to order the new connectors from VW. Maybe the inspector was a P***K? I wouldn't take the chance with a MIL for an airbag as it's a pain to go around twice.

Yeah, safety has nothing to do with it... you can have wipers and no windshield, seat belts and a milk crate and it'll pass... so long as your headlights are securely fastened, and your tail lights don't have red tape on them.

I need to find a new State inspection station then.....been using the same shop for years. They tried to get me to replace my dueled out and baffled mufflers on my Chev. pickup but I won that argument with a receipt and call from the install shop.

I'm off on Friday if you wanna meet up. I can get the basic VCDS stuff in for you at the very least. Plus it gives me a chance to oggle the new waggie.

I'm in Houston (Clear Lake) and just bought a 2012 JSW. First diesel, so I'll be lurking here for good info.

First of all, is Valero a decent source for diesel?

That is a very sweet offer, T. I appreciate it so much. Friday might work fine for me. I've looked through the VCDS thread and the only one I really want is the key fob windows. But, coming home seems interesting, though I don't exactly understand what it does. Maybe you can tell me about it?

Hi rfortson!

What JSW did you get? What dealer did you use? Congratulations!! I hope you absolutely enjoy it and have no major issues!!! Is this your first TDI/diesel? (nevermind, reading comprehension fail)

I'm still trying to figure out what diesel brands are generally believed to be better. And I'm trying to figure out if the Optilube or Stanadyne additives are avail. locally. DON'T miss the threads in Lubricity on additives, rfortson....you'll have to make your own decision on them, but read thoroughly and know your options. As for me, I'm using Power Service (grey bottle) available at Autozone, until I get some of the 'better' stuff.

-------------In other local subjects-------------
Last night, in the Kingwood HEB parking lot, I saw a Candy White 2009 JSW TDI auto. I left a napkin note on the wiper, telling them about TDIClub.com and our pending get-together. Hopefully, we'll add another to our fold. Or, maybe they'll just think I'm nuts. :)
